Unhappy

Can anyone help??

Well... Went for my scan yesterday and as I already said in my previous post, all is well. The thing is, after my scan the doc (hospital) told me to go to my local docs tomorrow (today), what they didnīt tell me is that I had to go this morning!!! I thought they meant any time today (I live in Spain, language barrier) So, I was working this morning and went this afternoon and was told No!! I now canīt go til monday. The problem is that on the letter they gave me to take with me says on it to have a blood test within 48 hours of the scan!!! They didnīt give me any injections or anything like that so I donīt understand why it needs to be within 48 hours. Can anyone help clear this up? Now Iīm worried, what if I go on monday? will it make a difference??? HELP!!!!

That's awful I can't believe they turned you away. Not sure why they wanted the blood tests done within 48 hours, is there any way you can call the place you received the scan from and talk to them? Maybe they can get you in with the local doctor today?

Try not to worry, what was the blood test for? Could you call the hospital and explain what happened?

Nope, they do all the blood tests at the same time in the morning, itīs like a conveyor belt, one in, one out, I didnīt realise they only do it between certain times in the day

Well if it's your triple test I don't know why they're doing it so early because I thought it was done around 16 weeks. 15 weeks being the earliest and 17 being the latest???? to get the most accurate results. You are meant to have a scan before hand to confirm your dates but it doesn't need to be done within 48 hours. Any time after is fine.

As far as I'm aware (from the NICE guidelines) the triple test can be done as a stand-alone test between 14 and 20 weeks usually. There are a set of blood tests which can be associated with a nuchal scan called the combined test which is done between 11 and 14 weeks. Found some info on babyworld http://www.babyworld.co.uk/informati...eeds/downs.asp which says the blood tests can be done separately. I'm guessing they will probably get a more accurate estimate of your Downs risk if its done within 48 hours, but I'm sure the tests will still be useful on monday or maybe the can offer one of the later tests in addition? Sorry I can't be more help

I wonder if they are doing it to see if your HCG levels are in line with how far you are according to the scan?? With HCG going up every 48hrs.....probably not but just an idea....

For the triple tests I don't think it'd matter if you waited more than 48 hours to have them done....
