Have I made the right decision..scan wise?

Girls, I need your views!

Ok so as some of you know, I had a scan at 5 weeks and another last Tuesday dating me as 7+1 weeks - spot on what I thought my dates were.

Today I had my booking apt and we discussed my 12 week scan. My hospital offer either a dating scan or a nuchal translucency scan at 12 weeks.

I decided to go for the NT scan as I'm almost positive of my EDD of 5th July 2010. Midwife put it down as 4th July 2010..not sure why?! But anyway, it's only a day out.

So my question is, what will I miss out on by not having the dating scan? Have I chosen the right scan to have?

I'm happy to be presented with the reality should a problem be detected but I don't want to feel like I've missed out on a 'better' scan..if you know what I mean.

I would say yes, go for the NT scan, rather than the dating scan. It sounds like you'd want to know your risk of a Down's baby, so best to go for that.
Could you not get a dating scan privately if you wanted? Also, can't they use the NT scan to date??

They can confirm your dates are fine or off with the NT scan too, just ask how the baby is measuring!

As you have already had the dating scan I would definitely do the nuchal scan - our hospital do not offer this so I will need to go private.

Do you think the 7 week scan was pretty accurate date wise?

I think a 7wks scan is pretty accurate especially since you had two within a two week period (5wks and then 7wks) to measure growth. But like Junebug says, just ask at your NT scan what dates baby is measuring, they are sure to tell you...Can't imagine why they wouldn't..Good luck!

Lets face it chick, how many of us give birth on our due dates??? Is it worth knowing the exact date?

No I know, I'm just curious hence why I asked whether the 7 week one was accurate or not..my mum was made to go overdue by 2 weeks when pregnant with me and no one listened to her when she knew all of her dates.

I was born in distress and had problems that could have been prevented if she'd been induced earlier.. so I'm just trying to get an idea of due date should I need to 'argue' down the line.
