scan on wednesday no hb on fetal monitor

Hi Girls,

Well ive got my scan on wednesday and i will be 13+3 weeks ive had a previous mmc at 12 weeks so i brought a hi bebe doppler as i read some posts on here saying they were really good but i cant find a heartbeat ( ive tried about 4 times over the last week and have followed all the advise) i am overweight and have heard that this can make it take longer to find it but all of them seem to say you should pick it up by 12 weeks i no my dates are right because i had an early scan at 8+2 weeks. Is there anybody else on here that has had the same problem and all was ok?

Instead of reassuring me i have made myself feel worse!!

Ruth

This is going to sound sarcastic but I SWEAR it isn't:

This is why we have to go to pros to get it done!

Really, DO NOT worry yourself sweetie! X-ray and ultrasound techs train for years to do this job ... so do not panic when you can't pick up the heartbeat yourself.

Honestly, it will just make you more stressed, for no good reason. You should be able to pick it up yourself, but there is plenty of variation amongst healthy individuals, and that includes fetuses too!

Thanks, I know it was stupid to get one i just saw so many ladies on here that said they found it as early and 8 weeks with the hi bebe one so i quess i was just hoping if i could hear the heartbeat before the scan it would stop me stressing out i think that backfired lol!!

I found a heartbeat but it was only around 100 so i know that this is likely to be mine i wonder if maybe some of the ladies have thought this was the babies??

Thanks for the replies

Ruth

Hi hun I have the hi-bebe doppler and I found the babys heartbeat on my doppler for the the first time at 10+4 but I was searching from 8 weeks it took me AGES and I worried so much when I couldn't find it. The info on my doppler actually says overweight women and/or tall women may not find the heartbeat until 14 weeks . After I found it at 10+4 I couldn't find it again so after my 12 week scan I made the decision to put it up til 14 weeks which was yesterday and found it straight away loud and clear. It's definitely babys heartbeat I heard I posted a video if it on this thread What a great 1st day in 2nd tri!!
I think you should try not to worry (I understand how hard this is after a mc) I'm sure your scan will be great, but if the doppler is really upsetting you try putting it up until you're 14 weeks. The women who found it early were likely just lucky and your baby is probably either playing hide and seek with mummy, or just in a bad position to pick up the heartbeat easily. Even midwives struggle at this stage my mw isn't even going to try for the heartbeat til 16 weeks so please try not to worry hun. Huge hugs xxx

I read recently that these home Doppler things should be regarded as "toys" and no more. Apparently it can cause needless worry because you can't pick up what you expected, as is your case. You can also pick your own heart, apparently, and mistake it for the baby's. It seems one woman did just that, she had some problem but thought could hear the baby so she didn't go to the hospital. And actually there *was* a problem.

Not sure where I read it. I thought it was the BBC news website, but I can't find it now, sorry.

But basically it's what a previous poster said: check-ups should be professionally done. It may be just be it's harder in your case, or you're not doing it right. If nothing else seems wrong, you probably should just relax and try later on
