You can also rent really good ones as well, that is what I"m doing. I am renting the LifeDop L250 by Summit Doppler and it's 3MHz.

I just googled it and a bunch of sites came up. I haven't tried it yet as it arrived the day I found out I wasn't as far along as I thought. I figured I shouldn't try until I'm at least 7 weeks, so I don't drive myself mad, lol! Although I listened to my heart which was cool and totally freaked out my dogs!

little_e just wanted to answer your previous question. Yes I can now find the heartbeat every time I look within a couple of minutes of putting the doppler on my tummy. I'm glad I decided to wait til 14 weeks it's so much less stressful being able to find it every time!! I would say a doppler is definitely worth having, the peace of mind I get from being able to check on my baby whenever is priceless. Don't be surprised if your OB advises you against getting a fetal doppler. My midwife told me off when I told her I have a doppler because some women use them in later pregnancy, for example if baby isn't moving much INSTEAD of seeking medical help as advised and the outcomes have not been good. As long as you know as someone else has said the doppler is a nice way to bond with your baby from early on and a godsend in those long weeks between scans but is for entertainment and not intended to replace prenatal care or advice in anyway then you'll be fine. Good luck convincing OH. My OH agreed after only a little bit of persuasion because he was keen on the idea of recording the hb for posterity. I also agree with what the other ladies have said if OH is not keen, maybe try renting one and he may agree to buying one when he hears that magical sound, or you may find renting one more worthwhile for you. I wanted to buy mine as I want more children and know it will be used again xxxx

I have just ordered one off the auction site - I actually have a hi baby one, but it doesnt have an lcd display to show the heart rate, and in my first pregnancy I wasnt so sure if I was picking up the heartbeat or not as there is quite a lot of background noise.

I managed to get a best offer one for £45 with a lcd display - will mean I can also try to analyse the heartbeat rate to guess boy or girl lol!!

I did just try my hi baby one but dont think I picked up the heartbeat - but Im not worried at all as its very early, and Im not convinced it works either!

Lol Chocolate I have the waterproof one with lcd display. It's great!! And I have been analysing the heartbeat too!! Hahaha. From what I (albeit vaguely) remember my sons hb was around 136bpm. Never had my own doppler then so was just what the mw told me. This baby has a hb of 157+bpm sometimes it's higher but that's the average so very hopeful the old wives tale is true and this baby is in fact a girlie. Will find out in 24 days!! Can't wait!!!!xxx
