Anyone experience anything like this...

Hi ladies, I haven't posted many threads on here but I always read through others' posts and find the advice you all give to be fantastic so I'm kinda hoping maybe at least one person may have experienced something similar!

Ok, so I'm 9+1 and so far have had what I think to be pretty standard symptoms - nausea, frequent trips to the bathroom, very sore boobs etc. Plus the usual stretching pains. My first question is just that really, it's not something I'm concerned about but I just wonder if any of you have had a sort of achy throbbing feeling on your pubic bone? Bit random but like I said just wondered!

My second thing is slightly more concerning to me, basically about 2 weeks ago I was stood in my kitchen chatting to hubby and his dad when out of the blue I started getting black dots in front of my eyes and my hearing started going fuzzy. I felt I had to sit down otherwise I'd fall down. My hubby helped me into the lounge and sat me down - by now I couldn't see or hear anything so it was pretty scary. From start to finish this all lasted about a minute to 2 minutes. Afterwards I felt really hot and sweaty and shaken. I put it down to being hungry or dehydrated. Then yesterday went shopping with hubby to our local shops and was fine then walking around hmv started feeling the exact same thing, I just clung to my husband and the next thing I knew when I opened my eyes I was kneeling on the floor of the shop! Again it could of only lasted less than a minute but I don't even remember kneeling down. My husband said I was mumbling that I had to sit down but I honestly don't remember. After I felt the same, hot and shakey. Somebody in the shop brought me some water and I was fine. When I got home I phoned my gp who said it was prob normal and just my blood pressure being all over the place. So not much help. I'm seeing my mw this week so I'm going to ask her but I just wondered if anyone has had anything at all like this? I know dizziness and lightheadedness are normal during pregnancy but the loss of sight and hearing is what worries me. Other than this I've had nothing else that's worried me, no pains or bleeding. Any comments and advice would be welcome. Thank you in advance ladies and so sorry fir the long post!
X

yeah and i didn't think you could experience such dizziness and bp problems until around second tri. you need them to take your blood pressure, and especially at those moments. Your body is extremely fatigued at this time of your pregnancy, perhaps try napping and not over doing it. I often feel dizzy and like i will pass out. As far as the achy throbbing feeling, its just growing and streching too. Probably normal. Sorry I'm not much of a help. lol

the discription you have given seems the same thing i have just before i faint , i feel flustered and hot, my hearing goes squiffy and my vision turns tunnel like and dark before i pass out...not had it during pregnancy, but felt exactly the same each time i have fainted..only 4 times in adulthood and a near miss on my wedding day when in church when i felt like i was going to but just hung on to my husband until it passed...have you had your blood pressure checked recently? it may be quite low, i sometimes feel wobbly when i stand quickly, speak with your GP again. hope you get the answers! x

hi

the changes in hearing and vision are quite normal before you faint (or if you almost faint) so I wouldn't worry too much about those symptoms in themselves. Your blood pressure must be low - make sure you drink plenty of fluids and don't let yourself get too hungry. Also, take your time when standing up from sitting and especially when getting out of bed in the morning or during the night - sit up for a minute first then stand up fully

Those symptoms are classic for vasovagal syncope, i.e. the most common cause of fainting. See this Wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasovagal_episode
Pregnancy brings about changes in blood pressure, blood volume, heart rate and glycemic levels (sugar levels in the blood) so definitely predisposes individuals to this. Sitting down and putting your head between your knees helps a lot. I often get these episodes (pre-pregnancy) and have already passed out a couple of times since getting pregnant. While scary, it is not dangerous for baby or you (although falling from high places could be!).
Hope this helps!
CJ

This sounds like classic low blood pressure and low blood sugar leading to blackouts and fainting. It can happen at any stage (although it's more common later on). Basically, there was not enough oxygen getting to your brain and you blacked out. It's actually fairly common to black out without losing consciousness - your vision gets spotty, then starts to close in, you get a ringing in your ears or they feel like someone has stuffed cotton wool in them, your legs can't support you any more and you have about three seconds to find a chair before you fall over.
If it happens again, get someone to look at your eyes - they'll look all scary and black because your pupils will be totally dilated (i.e. all the way out to the edge of the iris). For a couple of minutes you can't hear much or see anything except black. Then the hearing comes back and then the sight. Try and put your head lower than your legs (the best way is to lie on the floor with your feet up on a chair) and it'll pass sooner.
It's happened to me three times so I recognise it. Yes, it freaks you out the first time, but after that you'll know the signs. It's just possible it's an infection, but it's so classically symptomatic of blackouts that I would put money on it!

I just wanted to say thank you so much to everyone that commented. I can't tell you how relieved I am to hear that others have experienced the same thing and it's relatively normal! I am definitley going to try to ensure I eat little and often and always have a bottle of water with me.

Thanks again and good luck to you all during the rest of your pregnancies! X

Freya I have had this a couple of times too - it's really scary. I have been told to take my time getting up and to sleep on my left side. I was also glad to read this thread, to see that it's not just me who has had this. thanks for the thread x
