How long had the person had shingles for before you were exposed to them? How close was your contact? DId they have lesions? Have you ever been checked to see if your immune to chicken pox - ususally this is a blood test.

I have heard that you shouldn't be around people with shingles. My dad had it this summer and he said that if there was even a chance I was pregnant, he wouldn't come see me cuz his doctor said not to be around pregnant women. Luckily I got to see him (after 3 months of not seeing him) because I wasn't pregnant and now that I am, he's in the clear!! Hope everything is okay though!! If you're really concerned I would contact your doctor!!

Well it's in my place of work. I have no idea how long she has had shingles, but im a care assistant, so obviously we have very close contact.

I just found out last night that she's got them.. I haven't noticed any lesions on her skin at all!! So im pretty sure I haven't touched any. I've been reading up about it, and it seems you might be alright if you have had the chicken pox before.

But now im panicking because I have no idea how im going to get away with not going near her, without telling people im pregnant!! x

If you have had Chicken Pox, then you should be ok.... my sister had Shingles when I first found out that I was pregnant.... as long as you don't touch them, you are fine. I mentioned my sisters Shingles to my midwife and she wasn't concerned at all.

xx

You can't really "catch" shingles. It's the dormant chicken pox virus that has been sitting dormant in your system for years and has become reawakened due to stress or another illness. If you have not had chicken pox, you can catch chicken pox from a person with shingles, but you can't catch shingles.

My neighbor had shingles this summer, and her husband didn't get it either...so if you had chicken pox, you should be ok.

But if you're still worried, just use that excuse that you haven't had it yet!
