should i tell my boss?

I work quite closely with my boss , and we have been doing some planning for next year.ie who does what and who is better at this type of job to make the department run smoothly as the company is expanding alot next year.

so one of the people she wants to get involved is pregnant (part timer). but she doesnt know it yet. plus i am pregnant as well. which is 2 people out of a department of 3 full time and 2 parttime. i am full time.

so the other lady is futher along than me and will annouce in a couple of weeks. by then i will be about 8 weeks. i know my boss is gonna have a heart attack so do i let her know that i am expecting too or wait till i come back from xmas hols in the new year to tell her?

i feel like i should to be loyal, and not agree to her plans knowing full well its gona completely change!! or should i just wait till my 12 weeks?

soooo confused.

Hi!! I know its hard being a loyal employee and all but plans are going to change regardless of pregnancies etc so I think its totally up to you when you feel comfortable sharing your news (as long as it is before the legally required time). I've been in the same situation at work and I know what a nightmare it can be. I've decided to wait until after my company does pay reviews (end dec/beg jan.) or the first scan whichever is sooner. At least it sounds like you have a good relationship with your boss and she should hopefully understand your choices. Good Luck hun!

It depends entirely on your relationship with your boss. Your priorities have totally changed now and your baby is more important to you than your work next year, so don't feel disloyal to your boss. It's up to you and how you feel.

I also think that it is important that someone at your work knows about you being pregnant, so that if something happens (god forbid), then someone would be able to speak up and say you are pregnant. I am always worried that I will slip at work (I am a waitress), so my boss knows so should something happen to me he can tell the ambulance or whatever straightaway. I am just really over cautious with these things though, one of those people who always see the worst in every situation.

Speaking from an HR point of view, I say tell your boss ASAP. This will help in being flexible with job duties, scheduling dr. appts., etc. Your boss will appreciate you being forthcoming! Good luck!

i was hoping that i might get a pay review as well, so that would be good to get that in before i break the news as i wont get one after.

maybe i will break the news in a couple of weeks when the part timer breaks hers,i will be 8 weeks by then. that way both jobs can be assessed at the same time rather than 5 weeks later again....

I have told the office manager but not my own line manager yet. The office manager is a lovely woman and I told her just for the safety aspect - if something went off! She was so excited though she ran over the office and gave me a huge hug!!! Lol not telling my line manager until I'm a little further along!!!

I am holding off from telling work as they are doing pay reviews in Jan and I have been promised (verbally) a raise and don't want them to find an excuse for this not to happen.
From a loyalty point of view, it's entirely up to you, if you don't think there would be any negative effects from telling your boss then why not! Work (well my bosses) are the only people that don't know!!

I told my boss just after learning the news. I hoped it would make life a little easier with app'ts and ms. I also do not want to put myself in an unsafe situation as my job is unpredictable.
