Anyone else had a "late" 12 week scan?

Ive just got my scan through on the NHS but by that time, I will be almost 16 weeks!! (by my dates)
Now, I think its too long to wait (I havent had one yet) and was wondering if any of you had your 12 week scan late??

Ive booked an earlier private one as I cant wait that long I need reassurance that there is a heartbeat in there!!

i did the same as mine was booked for 16 weeks! I thinks is horrible having to wait but apparently some areas don't even do a 12 week one!

I would do the same again but i'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

I will be 14w+1 based on LMP when I have my scan - not quite as late as you ladies at 16w though.

Only 2 weeks to wait now

Do they realise that you'll be 16 weeks?

I'd phone and kick up a fuss - I think the most accurate time to have the nuchal fold test is between 11-13 weeks, so if you're planning on having that done I'd definitely make them aware x

I didnt for my first scan but my 20 week scan is being done at 23 weeks!

Oh and with my daughter, i had my 12 week scan and was put back 4 weeks so could have done with it at 16 weeks!

But i know its reassurring the first scan and to wait that long would drive me mad!!

Yes they must realise as I gave the MW my LMP date 2 weeks ago when I saw her. It just says a Dating Scan on the letter? Is it just for dates? Is the Nuchal Fold test routinely carried out on the 12 week scan?? Does anyone know?

It depends on the area. Where I am, the dating scan is also when they carry out the nuchal fold measurement and take bloods to asses your risk of anomolies. However, some places only do blood tests at about 16 weeks and just a normal scan at 12 weeks. Some places do other things. I'd give your MW a call to find out x

I'd give your midwife a call and see whether the delay is because they only do scans at 16 weeks in your area or if it's because there is a waiting list at the hospital. If it's because there is a waiting list for appointments then you have the right to choose which hospital you are seen at (called 'choose and book' - I work for the NHS ) - your G.P or mw should really have given you this option at the time, although lots don't. It might be that you could be seen earlier at another hospital if there is one near you.

good luck, it does seem a long time to wait to find out everything is OK - I'd be absoultely bursting to tell everyone way before then!
