Taking folic acid longer than the initial 3 months?

Has anyone else been advised to do this? My consultant said it was okay as folic acid contained loads of goodness which would be beneficial after the initial 3 months.

Yeah, my midwife said I can take pregnacare and they have folic acid in.

I read that you should only take it for the first 3 months. It's been linked to asthma in a child if you take it longer.......

I personally will only take it for 3 months, it leaves me with a horrid taste in my mouth that I just can't get rid off

I didn't know if I should be taking it 3 times a day with their being 3 babies. The midwife said she had never been asked that question before and didn't know. The consultant said just to take it once a day and I could take it longer than 3 months.

It's weird how we all get told different things.

I was advised to continue taking it for the whole pregnancy!

I asked my mw and she said that I can keep taking pregnancy vitamins (which contain folic acid) right the way thru pregnancy and breastfeeding xx

My doctor told me to take it for the first 5 months. I have no idea if I should or not

I take Pregnacare (which has the recommended daily Folic Acid in it) and its says on the box you can take it throughout pregnancy and afterwards when breastfeeding, so I should imagine it is fine to continue taking it.

Fancy your MW not knowing about it????

I would do what you feel is best and as your consultant said its fine, that its likely to be fine.

To be honest folic acid is one of those things that your body needs but cannot OD on. Apparently if you were to take too much your body would use what it needed and just expel the rest through your urine. All the pregnancy vitamins contain it and are safe for the entire pregnancy and breastfeeding. I personally will be taking pregnacare throughout my pregnancy.

I'm gonna take my Pregnacare right throughout my pregnancy, it says on the box you can and anything you don't need will just be expelled in your wee xxx
