OOH I'm in the same boat, just got a call today, booked in for 24 Nov. I'm only 8 weeks so I want to know if there is ANY risk. I'm leaning towards there is more of a risk if I would get H1N1. Would love to hear from the ladies who have had it, or decided not to have it for some reason.

Hi

I have been wondering about this as well. I work for the NHS and usually get my ordinary flu vaccine every year. However, when I went to get it a few weeks ago I was advised by the nurse not to have it if I was pregnant. She stressed that it was not a 'live' virus and that there was no research evidence of any harm to either mothers or unborn babies, but suggested that I shouldn't have it unless there was a real risk from getting flu such as other chronic health problems. But the advice for the swine flu jab seems to be the exact opposite.

Anyway, a week after I didn't get my flu jab I got flu - the same day I got my ! I read as much as I could and it seems that there is a small risk of mc or developmental abnormalities for the baby if the mother has a high temperature in first tri. And the risk seems to bemuch greater for swine flu than ordinary flu if you're preg. To cut a long story short, it seems that there is more risk from flu itself than from the jab, but why do I still feel uneasy???

sorry for that really long post!

I really dont think the risks of the swine flu jab have been rigourously tested in pregnant women. What happend if it affects the baby at some point in the future. I think I will take the chance. I am fit and healthy and should manage to battle through the flu. A fit and healthy person with no underlyinh health problems is not going to die of swine flu.

I wont take any more than a paracetemol so I am def not injecting a cocktail of untested chemical into my body.

I respect that its everyone personal decision. X

I had mine today, I wanted to have it as the doctor said your immune system can go down when your pregnant and I didn't wanna risk getting swine flu. Its down to you though at the end of the day, I just preferred to have it xx

The Swine Flu went right through my household because they were not offering it to the general public. The OH spent the weekend in the hospital. As he was leaving my son had to be rushed in and get some puffers and medication. The next morning I started to get sick. Now I have the H1N1. I kept an eye on my temp because I knew I might get it and I was put on meds right away. I am doing ok but I have been resting a lot and my parents took my son. I was going to get the vacine but I guess I dont need to now. I know it is not as dangerous in your first trimester and most importantly to keep the temp down. Good luck with your decision.
