I'm having murders between my GP and my midwife getting an early scan, and I've taken the day off work tomorrow to try and sort it out. Basically, GP is saying that I need an early scan 1) because of previous ectopic and 2) because we don't know how far gone I am and we want to make sure JB is ok. M/W is saying that they wouldn't be able to see anything at this stage - now I know this is an absolutely CROCK! SO ANGRY!
I spoke to the ultrasound dept and they said they'd be happy to do a scan at this stage if I can take them paperwork from GP, and so I'm going to ask him to do the forms for me and take them up there tomorrow. I was wondering though, can they do a tummy scan at this stage, or will it have to be an internal vaginal scan? Does anyone know?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm so angry with the midwives. They don't want to know you in my area until you're over 12 weeks preggers, and if JBs in the wrong place, then I'll end up with another ruptured fallopian tube. I don't think he/she is, but you'd think they'd be more sympathetic.
I can understand how you'd want reassurance after an ectopic, it's just sad that the MW isn't being very accomodating about it
I would say they'll do and internal scan, as had to have about 5 up til 7 weeks, and then they had to really push down to get a tummy scan just after.
Good Luck, I hope everything is ok. Keep us posted
I hope you get it sorted hun they are so frustrating sometimes! To us it is sooo important to want to know that everything is fine especially if you had an ectopic previously but to them they don't really see the urgency! I kept phoning up my hospital to see if my GP had sent a letter referring me to have scan and it took him a week and a half! thanks matey! Thankfully the ladies at ante natal section of hospital are really considerate and sorted it out for me either that or they got bored of hearing from me
Thanks ladies. I guess I'll have to just wait and see. I was worried about having an internal scan, but if that's what they need to do then I guess I'll have to go with it. Are they safe???
I had an internal scan in December last year, and that pregnancy all ended in tears, so I'm a little bit wary. This pregnancy does feel different though, so fx it's all ok.
This early on I think they'll probably end up doing an internal scan. I know when I went in for my 13 week scan one of the assistants told me to take my bottoms off because she thought I'd have to do an internal but when the ultrasound tech came in she asked me how far along I was and when I told her she said there was on reason for an internal, that they only have to do those before 11 weeks. Good luck with your scan I'm glad your GP is going to get you in for one.
