Taking medicines

So I've got a horrible cold thanks to my DH who was ill all weekend with it. He recovered quite a bit by taking flu medicine, but what can I take?
Is it safe to use things like throat lozenges, decongestants and cough medicine?

The packets don't have any warnings on, but I know when I first went to the doctors about the pregnancy he said basically to avoid medicines and stick to paracetamol. Definitely not gonna take the flu med my DH had cos it's 20% alcohol!!!
Nice to have another Geordie, you're the first one I've seen on here!
