| HCG and Progesterone Levels Hi everyone, I am thoroughly confused by all the HCG and progesterone levels and what they should be, so just wondered if anyone else out there understands.
I had my bloods drawn on 2nd Nov, which would've put me as being 33 DPO or at 4+5 weeks. I overheard the doctor at the hospital say "thats really high" and guessed he was talking about my levels, but I couldn't be sure.
Here are my levels, do they seem high or just normal?
HCG = 5102
Progesterone = 59.3
I got a really early HPT, but I've had a scan and baby is as far along as I suspected. If my levels are high what would be causing this, if it was because of multiples then they'd have picked that up at my early scan at 5+2 weeks wouldn't they? | | | | Status: Offline

| thanks fluffyblue, I am glad they are high as it is reassuring. They wouldn't take another lot when I went for my early scan 3 days later, I would've liked to have seen that they'd increased.
I'm not taking any stimulants at all, is it ok that my progesterone is high - I've got no idea what it is, won't effect the baby will it? | | | | Status: Offline

Sorry for getting in on your thread | Hi Janidog, firstly congrats on your
I'm not totally sure, so hopefully someone else who knows more about it all will be able to give you information about this. As far as I know as fluffyblue said there must be stimulants you can take to increase your progesterone level. If yours is low, then I am sure they will do whatever they can to protect and save your pregnancy huni, they wouldn't just give up!
FX that you get back good results, make sure you let me know | | | | Status: Offline

| Hi sweetie, your level is high but just falls in the range of normal.
What I'm about to tell you is not to scare you but if you google 'really high HCG' your going to find info on this so I wanted to shed some light on it first so bare with me x
I lost my first baby at 12 weeks due to it being a partial molar pregnancy. The short version of what this is - 1 egg gets fertilised by two sperm giving the baby 69 chromosomes instead of the normal 46. They cant tell until after you lose the baby and they send tissue for testing. The baby could never have survived and would never have miscarried naturally cause the biggest problem associated with this type of pregnancy is that the placenta continues to grow and produce HCG at alarming rates causing your level to be really high. I am telling you this cause I dont want you to find info on partial molar pregnancy and think that is what is wrong cause it is really uncommon. My HCG level at 5+1 with my molar pregnancy was 24,690 - which you are not even close too.
I hope this post does what I intended it to and warn you away from reading too much into high HCG and don't google it cause there are lots of things you will find which I'm sure will not affect you.
Hope this helps xxx | | | | Status: Offline

| I was on Cyclogest which is 200mg progesterone pessaries unfortunately this has delayed my miscarriage !!!!
You can go to see your GP re getting these pessaries and even if you dont need them they dont do any harm for the baby.
Once your placenta kicks in it doesnt matter about progesterone levels and this is about 8 weeks see below - ranges as below
1st trimester: 11.2-90.0 ng/mL
2nd trimester: 25.6-89.4 ng/mL
3rd trimester: 55-200 ng/mL
The higher the progesterone level the better, it can only do good. A low level can cause spotting, a threatened miscarriage, a miscarriage or pre-term birth, high blood pressure, water retention, headaches and more. | | | | Status: Offline

Hope this helps xxx | Hi, thanks for sharing this with me. I am so sorry you had to go through this, it must've been so very upsetting and traumatic for you.
You didn't scare me, its something like you said I would've come across had I gone on the internet and searched it. I tend to stay away from google and other such search engines during pregnancy as they scare the hell out of you and make you think something terrible is happening when in fact everything is fine.
I've got another scan on 26th November, first early one was to rule out an ectopic as I had/still have bad stabbing pains on my left side. Not sure if they'll draw bloods again then, or if they'll just rely on the scan to see all is well as I will be 8+2 weeks by then. | | | | Status: Offline

| Janidog, just wanted to make sure that you read what fluffyblue said about progesterone levels and seeing your GP about getting Cyclogest.

Come back and let me know when you get your results, I will keep checking for your update x | Well gp phoned back but didnt discuss the results, but just said 'well you're pregnant, so we wont worry about it' which didn't help me much, so i think i will have to wait it out and keep everything crossed that i dont lose the little thing.
Thanks
I will also be keeping my eye on you X | | | | Status: Offline
