I hate work

Hi everyone just thought i'd share my story with you. Since i told work that i am pregnant i have noticed that their attitude has changed i had a miscarriage last time so this pregnancy i am very wary. I work in a small office and i booked an early scan to reassure myself when i told work of this i got told that it was a terrible inconvenience as my manager was going away. I had the scan and all was fine then as all of us do i have sickness and the supervisor told me that they don't need it as a company as i am going to be tired and sick all of the time which i told her was just a phase. She said she is not telling me to leave but maybe i should cut down my days. After that last week i had the Friday off as i had pains and went to the hospital and when i went back on the Monday i got old i cannot go back until i have a medical certificate for one day. I don't know weather to look for another job or not does anyone know where i can find out about my rights in work?

Hi hun, don't really have any advice for you but wanted to stop and give you a

Are you a contracted employee or a temp and how long have you been working there? You will have rights, but I suspect your boss is trying to intimidate you into quitting rather than honour them because he doesn't want the inconvenience of a pregnant employee.

I'm sure someone here will be able to give you some solid advice, but in the meantime perhaps you could give your local citizens advice bureau a call. One thing I do know is that they absolutely cannot sack you because you are pregnant, to do so could get them in a serious amount of trouble.

Hi Hun,

Im sorry for what your work is like i can sympathised cus mine are bad aswell. At the moment i have a doctors note in one hand and the phone in the other ready to ring in sick but have been trying to do it for 2 hours as i know they will be funny. As far as i am aware regarding rights during pregnancy you are allowed to have upto 7 day off without a sicknote and if your work is insisting on one then you can ask your doctor who will probably charge you for it or i said to work i would be more than happy to get them one but they would have to pay if they put you under undue stress then you have the right to ask the doctor to sign you off especially as you have had a mc previously. I also had a mc before my son and took off quite a lot of time off work leading upto my scan as i couldnt concentrate and being there just made me feel worse. Do not let them bully you you are well within your rights to have time off for scans and antenatal appointments and also to be off if your ill just explain to them that this is how it is and that you are doing the best you can. Hope they get better with you im just about to ring mine now and get a mouthful but hey as soon as it done i dont have to go in for 2 weeks lol!!

Take care
Ruth

If you feel there is any discrimination due to your pregancy you have grounds for a grievence!

Also if they start to push you out or demad you change your hours they are legally accountable.

Have a look on Direct Gov's websit about preganacy and maternity rights - if your off sick due o your preganacy it cant not be deemed as normal sick, wich means they cant take action agains you because of teh amount of days you have off. Also they cant tell you cant have time off for appointments to do with your pregnancy, they have to also pay you for this time off, and can not request you make up the time. They should alsp pay you in full for any appointment time taken!

You have so many rights now so look into them and exercise them! Once your comapny know you know what your talking about they might back off a bit too!!

Good Luck hun! xxx

my work tried to do this to me last time they cannot bully you as it comes under sex discrimination act, they cannot use any days taken off as sick due to pregnancy into account on your sick record, this is not fair do not change jobs do not reduce your hours as it will effect your mat pay

You need to get them in a meeting advise them if they continue to bully you out of your job because you are pregnant or try and make you reduce your hours then you will take legal action its completely unfair and i am glad atm i am not owrking and wont be for the whole of the pregnancy i know how hard it was for me to work and be pregnant they made my life hell

stand your ground and stick to your guns you have more protection than they do
