| Anyone else had the Swine Flue vaccine yet?? Hi all,
I'm 11 weeks pregnant with my second baby and i've been asked by my doctor today if i want the Swine Flu vaccine and i don't know what to do.
Is anyone else at the same stage as me with the same situation or gave any of you already had the vaccine? If so, how have you been since the vaccine and how is your baby?
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks everyone xx | | | | Status: Offline

| I had the single dose vaccine on saturday - i was 9+ weeks, I chose to have it as i already have 2 children and felt their need for their mother greatly out weighed any other risk. I feel fine apart from my arm feeling bruised and heavy at the sight of the injection - as for the baby I was not lucky enough to have had an early scan but due my 1st scan on 20th of this month so we shall see then. It is definately a very personal and difficult choice.I'm sure you will make a decision that is right for you. | | | | Status: Offline

| Hi there, I am 10 wks 5 days pregnant and got offered the swine flu vaccination last week. I have decided against having it, at the moment anyway. I spoke to my midwife about it last week who said they had not been given any information on it!
Just don't like the fact it seems to have been rushed through very quickly. Maybe I am being over cautious but I feel happier not having it.
Not really much help but thought I would share my thoughts anyway! | | | | Status: Offline

| I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow and I think i am verging towards getting it. I would be mortified if anything were to happen to the baby as a results of getting the vaccine but the way i see it - if i dont get it and get very ill or die then the baby will be no better off anyway. | | | | Status: Offline

| I got a letter about it today but just don't know what to do!
There is so much conflicting information - I am so scared of harming my baby! But then of course i don't want to run the risk of contracting swine flu

| I'm posting from the US so I just wanted to give you some numbers...I too was contacted by my physician's office to offer the very limited availability to me as a pregnant person (high risk category). If you visit the Center for Disease Control website you can see all of the info of influenza (non H1N1) as well as the H1N1 stuff. If you do the math less than .001% of the US population die of influenza/pneumonia. Only around 36,000 people total got the flu last year and of those accounts, it was about 9 or 10% who died. Which is about 3,500 people. Total. There are over 300 BILLION people who live in the US. So honestly, the chance of you contracting it, then dying from it are very slim. Of course it would be terrible to be in that small percentage. If you are likely to be exposed (like you know it's in your kids school already or people at work have had it) then yeah, there is more of a risk so absolutely take that into consideration. I'd just caution that we get to be part of the research on the results of it considering the initial human testing won't be finished until early 2010. Plus they've already altered the ingredients because they were running low so they are trying to get more per dose. Oh and if you do get the vaccine make sure you check the vial (even if it insults the nurse) to be positive you got the one that has no mercury in it. Nurses are humans and with the kind of response for this vaccine, mistakes are happening. It's your health so take charge of it! | | | | Status: Offline
