Aww hun, that's awful. I had the same thing the other day.. I work in admin in a hotel and the chef called up to say his wife had been diagnosed and he had definite symptoms.. I told him, under no circumstances come into work.. I even told him I'd go home if he did. Then rang my manager who was off work for the day and he said there was enough cover so the chef could stay home... but he came into work anyway!!! and stayed in the kitchens around food all day! (no one at work knows I'm pregnant yet so they just think I'm neurotic and keep laughing it off saying that swine flu isn't that bad and I'm over reacting)... I just think these people are so selfish they don't realise the complications that anyone can go through with any illness.

grr it makes me so mad.. I think that if I coul have outwardly told them I was pregnant I would have just walked out but there is no way I am telling them before my family so I had to stick it out and be glad he was in another room all day.

You're right, my work focused on lifting, chemicals and things like that - we have now had 2 members of staff with suspected swine flu and all HR keep telling me is that if they feel well enough to come back to work then the infectious period has passed!?! I would love to know where they got their medical degrees from?!?

oh honey. i hope she doesn't come back into work today. if your workplace knows that you are preggers then i would tell them that you are going to have to leave due to risk to the baby unless they carry her out of the office... tell them you've been told by the doc not to come into contact with anyone who may have swine flu. i know i've been told that. and i intend to use the reason if i need to.

If she comes into work with those symptoms again...just get up and go home. Work cannot discipline you in anyway due to time off taken for pregnancy related issues. Just say your doc has told you to stay away from people who have the slightest flu symptoms.

She has phoned in today to say her doctor has given her Tamiflu, she sounded blooming terrible on the phone, she definitely has got the flu even if it isn't actually swine flu. Am just glad she hasn't come in. Hopefully she will stay off for the rest of the week, it's not as if I can't cover her work anyway as it's part of my job to do that if she is off.

Keeping myself nice and healthy by eating lots of fruit and veg and making sure I get plenty of vitamins into me just in case though

Sorry to jump in just wanted to say the advice so far is right, your work place HAVE to perform a risk assessment for you when they know you are pregnant. Its the law and doesnt matter if its a small space or not.

Your health and that of your baby is the most important thing and if your employer is not supportive over that, then they should put you on paid leave.

Ive technically left my job, found out I was preggers after handing in my notice and I refused to operate the x-ray equipment in our clinic, and my boss's wife said I was over-reacting!!!!
