| First GP appointment? I've just phoned the clinic to make my first GP appointment (I got my BFP on Sat) and the receptionist said that I had to wait until I was 8-10 weeks gone and then book in with a midwife.
I thought they needed to do a blood test as soon as possible? I'm pretty pissed off that they're telling me to sit around without checking me out. Is this what normally happens?
The NHS website says: Quote:
When you first learn that you're pregnant, it’s important to contact an NHS professional as soon as possible. This is to make sure that you receive maternity health care that takes account of all your health needs and preferences.
You can book an appointment directly with your midwife as soon as you know that you're pregnant.

| Hi there,
I only saw my midwife for the first time last week at 9wks 6days, had my bloods done on the same day. I thought I would have seen her earlier but when I called at 6wks I also got told by the receptionist I had to wait until 9-10 weeks. Very frustrationg.
Hope that helps in some way. | | | | Status: Offline

| I saw my GP last Friday (I didn't tell the receptionist what the appt was for), she basically just checked that I knew what I should and shouldn't be eating and told me to book in with a midwife for a couple of weeks time. I am now just counting down the days till that appt! | | | | Status: Offline

| I haven't had my bloods done yet and they only do it in my region when you have your first scan which is between 10 - 12 weeks. I have had a MW's appointment and I have another this week but that is just form filling, urine samples, height, weight, BMI and blood pressure. From what I can tell you don't get to see a MW until 6-8 weeks usually, and only before if you are a high rish case with previous problems.
Good luck though! xx | | | | Status: Offline

| Hi, congratulations!
When I found out I was pg the first time I went to the doctors (dragged my OH along) expecting checks and congratulations etc but got told to take folic acid and to call the midwife's to make an appointment when I was 10 weeks and then I would have a scan when I was 12 weeks - a big anti climax!
This time when I found out I was pregnant I called the midwife directly to book myself in for an appointment at 10 weeks! Got my appointment at the beginning of December, didn't even bother with the GP, no point going in to the office to put myself at risk of those horrible germs!!!
Take care xx | | | | Status: Offline
