Drinking occasions?

What do you drink as an alternative to alcohol?? I thought that with the holidays approaching we might share some ideas for drinks on festive occassions

I always felt "left out" when I was pregnant before during the holidays. I wasn't upset that I was missing the wine or liquor so much as the experience. Our family tends to buy and try new wines during the holidays or the other classic time is when the whole family has been out and about and we get into the house (nice and warm) from the cold outdoors...

So I started finding drinks that were a special treat for me during those times. I often will browse the local or organic sections in the grocery stores and find specialty sodas (pop) and such.

I've found some wonderful ginger beers, cream sodas and specialty flavors to try.

Another thing I will drink sometimes is a virgin Caesar. These are made with vegetable cocktail or clamato juice with some Worcesters, Tabasco and seasoning salt on the rim. Most often a celery stick or pickled bean is in there too.

great idea!

how about some cranberry juice and gingerale...
ginger is great for those of us who feel constantly queasy, so its healthy too

i'll try and think of some more, because i love the idea of this thread. who says we should miss out on the fun of yummy drinks just bc we can't have booze!

M&S do a lovely non-alcoholic mulled wine which is moreish for even a drinker!

Also, any fruit cocktails like lychee juice and lemonade is sooo yummy! Add some fruit and hey presto, very refreshing!

I also love Elderflower Sparkling Juice by Belvoir, infact any Belvoir drinks I'll have with plenty of ice

Myself and DH enjoy trying new wines too, and I know what you mean about missing the experience rather than the alcohol. I may try a non alcoholic wine around Christmas, thats a good idea. On a more mundane level, I dont know if you can get this in Edmonton (is that Canada? Sorry, my geography sucks) but in the UK you can get J20 apple and raspberry, and with lots of ice in it, it is very yummy indeed xx

I’m not a massive drinker anyway so it doesn’t bother me too much. I try to stick to soft drinks or fruit juice. I like orange juice and lemonade but try not to drink too much of it really as it’s very acidic. Also I like orange and tomato juice mixed together or Orange and Cranberry juice.

Mostly though I drink summer fruit squash with fizzy water in it as it is very refreshing. Things like Appletizer, Shloer etc are nice as well but again I try not to have too much of them.

If we are out and there are non alcoholic cocktails available I will go for those as they are really nice.

I have tonic water and dream that theres some gin in it

I plan to have a glass of expensive champagne on Christmas day, and on the very odd occasions when we're out with friends who dont know we're pregnant, i have a spritzer and make it last all night.
