Hey!

First of all welcome and congratulations!!

As for the foods my doc said to me to avoid seafood that's not properly cooked and same goes with meat. Also to avoid soft cheeses. And that's all! As far as I know you are allowed eggs (I love my eggs and have them on a weekly basis )

Hope this helps a bit!

xxx

basically steer clear from any cheeses that have mould crusts such as brie, stilton etc but normal hard cheeses, cottage cheese and processed soft cheese is ok (something to do with being pasturised) - this is because there is a chance of lysteria - similarly steer clear from all pate's. Supermarket mayo is fine but be careful of any homemade mayo's.

Eggs are fine but need to be fully cooked (no runny centres) and meat should be thouroughly cooked too.

Raw shellfish is a no no but cooked shellfish including prawns are fine apparently.

Beware of some fish as it contains too much Vit A which can be harmful to baba - and limit tuna to a couple of times a week as it had a mercury content.

There's a few other guidelines but generally these are the ones that I've been looking at this morning on the t'interweb!

Why can't it be like the old days where they said "everything in moderation" lol

I'm going to be gripped at christmas when all the pate and cheese boards are cracked open not to mention the wine! bah! lol well its only 9 months x x x

That is a great list above

Basically unpasteurized dairy products (milk/ eggs/ homemade mayo) are a no no

Buy your meat products from a reputable source as well (including deli meats) as food poisoning is especially dangerous for bubs. Some people also have concerns about the amount of chemicals and nitrates in deli meats and will recommend/ choose not to eat them. Meats should be eaten fully cooked (well done) I generally eat mine as medium well (I normally love medium rare) when I'm pregnant

Some people also choose to avoid artificial sweeteners during pregnancy as well because they aren't natural.

I heard this towards the end of my pregnancy last time... But apparently if your family has a history of nut allergies or strawberry allergies.... you should stay away from those items as it can increase the chances of LO contracting the allergy. It's something to do with the proteins in those items. Never looked into research for it though as our families have no issues with that.

As far as I know. It's always a good idea to check with your health care provider as to their feelings on this topic as it will vary a bit from person to person.

As a side note... caffeine is another one that they recommend cutting back on as it's a stimulant and some research has shown that it can cause lower birth weights.

Some other studies also recommend staying away from liver as the vitamin A in high doses has been known to cause birth defects.

Both of those notes are neither 100% proven or dis proven but some studies have shown a link.

Yeah - They used to tell you to steer away from them but here in the UK they changed the advice in August this year to say that it was inaccurate to say that eating nuts in pregnancy increased allergies x
