i want to use a schwarzkopf live hair dye (the one that last 8 washes) but have heard colouring your hair during pregnancy is bad. i've heard it's because of the chemicals, the smell makes you feel sick, etc but have no clue what the real reason is.

has anyone else coloured their hair during pregnancy?

This has been mentioined on another topic:

Hair dye

I'm doing my roots this weekend, well overdue.

I remember once when I first started working, a girl who was about 6 months pregnant had her streaks done, rubber cap job (it is a few years ago now) and she had to sit by the open door (it was a little chilly), she needed fresh air and cooling down, she thinks it was a mixture of the smell of the rubber and bleach/peroxide. Ventilate the room well and get your roots done is what I say!!

I'd be very very wary of it !!! I've dyed my hair forever (can't even remember my natural colour ). In my second pregnancy, I did the usual 8 weeks touch up, and reacted really badly to it. I had blisters all around my hair line, and it fell out in little clumps, not so that you could notice from looking at me, but it was scary. WHen I went to the docs, and the hairdressers, they said that due due hormones and skin change, I had reacted... unpredictable, but can happen. After I had bubs, I was fine, and dyed it as normal after doing a test patch.
This time around, my hairdresser has got a special dye in that isn't harsh, and she's gonna do my roots for me throughout the pregnancy. It's only a little bit more expensive, and much safer..... Just my experience
Oh, and the darker the colour, the more pigment is in the dye, I do mine really dark brown...... Also bleach is not good

No probs
Unfortunately I was just one of the few that reacts. I should have done a test patch really, and then I would have known not to do it. Why don't you try a test patch? If you have any tingling, itching or burning, it signals reaction. I remember thinking to myself when it happened that it felt really odd, like little needles all over my head, not painful, just odd.
I have actually been warned by the Hairdresser, that I could react again at anytime, and that this is how alapeacia (spelling) starts. So I shoudn't really used shop dye ever again, or at least used the semi permanent ones. But the things we do for vanity :sigh:
