Losing Weight when Pregnant

Is it safe to lose some weight when pregnant. I am 5 weeks pregnant and I wanted to lose a tiny bit of weight. I dont mean like dieting but like excersicing (Just walking and biking). I thought that if I lose weight slow it wont be harmful (0.5 lbs a week)

Samo, she will lose body fat. It's not about weight, it's about body fat. But the real results won't show until after she has the baby.

MT, it's possible and safe, but ONLY with your doctor's approval. The main thing is to focus on eating healthy by changing your eating habits. It's possible to lose unhealthy body fat while gaining healthy body fat needed for the baby. Find a good exercise program that isn't strenuous on you and the baby. I was doing kickboxing before I found I was pregnant (also 5 weeks like you) and now I have toned it down to walking daily and doing a workout program by Gabrielle Reece's personal trainer. I'm not focused on losing weight though, I'm focused on being fit for the baby. Being overweight can really hurt the baby and I want to make sure #3 has a great start. Hope this helped

ETA: The best thing you can do is to focus on maintaining a healthy weight (talk to your doctor about how much weight you should gain) by eating what is right, after you have the baby, you will see that changing your eating habits and exercising was very beneficial. But please talk to your doctor. And remember, you're not trying to lose weight, you're trying to stay healthy. Don't get in the mindset of trying to lose weight because you can fall into the trap of dieting. Which is NOT good for the baby or you at all.

If you have extra weight to start with you can safely gain less weight in total. Your body will take some of the weight you already have to use for the baby.

I am in my second trimester, and still losing weight.... you cannot diet, but if you are eating healthier for the baby then I dont think there is any harm to it.
And as far as excersize goes I was told not to start a new exersize regime, but to continue whatever you were doing before... However I dont see walking as a problem, but you should talk to your doc before you start cycling if you were not doing it prior to you pregnancy.

I lost 25lbs in my first trimester (had HG really badly). I've only gained 4 of it back so far and Peanut is doing just fine and dandy.

I suppose I should have worded that differently. I don't want to lose weight just take off some of the extra fat. I am used to a very high intensity workout (I was losing weight when ttc) and I wanted to tone it back to just walking and cycling. I go see my doc Tues and so I will ask him what he thinks.
