Abdo Cramp & back pain getting worse!!!

Hi, I posted yesterday about cramping which I've had since just before I got my BFP, which I know if quite normal in early pregnancy. It was getting quite bad yesterday afternoon/evening and today its even worse.

I get a sharp stabbing pain just above my bikini line on the right hand side on and off and I've had constant cramping all day everyday across the front of my lower abdomen (like period cramping), but now and again this gets really bad. I also have really bad pain across my lower back.

I've been on the verge of phoning the EPU for the past hour or so, but don't know whether to or not, this could be because I either think I am over reacting or because I don't want to have to deal with what it might be.

What do you think I should do, I'm a bit scared!

Honey, cramping is normal but if I were you I'd phone them, for peace of mind if anything.

Hey hayzalbean

I agree with mrsjd - its really probably nothing to worry about but why not give them a quick call to put your mind at rest?

let us know how you get on

heyy

i realise im no doctor but from what ive read it does sound normal. ive sufferd rather bad with cramps since my period was late, and sometimes they last all day on and off, i also have the pain your talkin about on the right side, please try to relax as theres no signs of blood which the doctor told me is a good sign.

when i had bad cramps i freaked out and went a&e they checked me for ectopic, did a speculum to ensure cervix was closed and kept me in for observation, next day i had a scan which showed normal for my stage ... the doctor then came by and told me its normal, i got told this by about 3 different doctors and 2 nurses.

when i have these cramps i come home and get in bed, watch tv and try to chill out, maybe you should be doing the same
maybe a few days off work to relax?
i hope your feeling well soon, and believe me i no how scared you are xxxx

I hae exactly the same a. You. I had my doctors appointment this morning and I mentioned it to him and he seemed pretty clueless. Last night the abdominal pain was almost bringing tears to my eyes. An today my back is aching so bad, guess it doesn't help standing up for 9 hours straight at work :/ blah. Sorry my post isn't very awful but I just wanted you to know your not alone. Xx

I have been getting pretty terrible cramps mostly at night time before i go to bed. Last night they were really bad and I usually just try my best to fall asleep and when i wake up in the morning they're gone. I just asked the nurse about it today and she was saying she thinks its just the baby burrowing its way into my uterus to get a nice cozy place to stay for the next 8 months. Lovely, right? I've not seen any blood yet though so im not worried. Hope you feel better soon hun! x

If you are really worried give your dr or idwife a call, or even the epu, it could just be normal stretching pain, but if its too bad you cant handle it, seek some advice.....

Thanks everyone for your replies, I ended up phoning the EPU not long after I wrote my post yesterday as the pain got worse and it felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. Anyway, the told me to call Gyn Referral at the hospital and when I explained my symptoms they wanted me to go straight to A&E.

I had to go on my own as my sister looked after my DS and my OH was at work and I didn't want to worry him. Anyway, they took bloods and urine and eventually I was seen by a doctor, he wasn't very reassuring, said that my urine was a bit abnormal so might have a bit of a UTI so have given me antibiotics. He said that he won't send me for a scan as they wouldn't be able to see anything, but if I started to bleed I was to go straight back and they would scan me at that stage. I was left in a room for an hour whilst they waited for my bloods and said that he'd come back for another chat, that was the last I saw of him! The nurse came in to dispense my antibiotics and some co-codamol and was told "you can go home!". I asked after my bloods and she said they'd come back 'normal'.

The pain by this point had got even worse, so off I went home with some drugs, but absolutely no reassurance or explaination for whats causing the pain whatsoever! He told me you can take paracetomol to help with the pain, to which I replied "It isn't getting rid of the pain that troubles me, its having the pain that is causing me concern!". Anyway, I have my appointment to see the doc today to get referred to midwife, I have to ask him to refer me for an early scan so they can see whats going on.....which I think probably wont be til I am at least 7-8 weeks, so I guess I just sit and wait til then and pray I don't start bleeding!

The hospital I went to was absolutely fantastic throughout my pregnancy, labor and delivery of my first and when I was there a couple of years ago for a MC. However, if you go to any other department at the hospital they are totally useless! I was there for an operation last year and the treatment I received was utterly disgusting. I can't wait til I can go to the maternity department and not have anything to do with the rest of it.

Rant over, sorry - I got carried away! Just annoys me how they treat people, all pregnant women want when they are having severe abdominal pains is reassurance, not painkillers!!!
