That's exactly my point. Last time I had the flu was 15 years ago and I've never had a flu vaccine. This time, with the swine flu carrying with it the risk of serious complication (nasty bacterial infections, organ failure) and me being pregnant, I was ready to take the vaccine - and I am in the first trimester! I don't care, I think me and the bean have a way bigger chance of surviving by not getting this nasty flu virus then exposing ourselves to it because we want to avoid potential complications from the vaccine. Oh, one more thing: my husband had a say in this too, for him it was not a question, he did not want to risk me being sick with H1N1 now.

Right now, how many more women are sick (or dead) in complications from the swine flu compared to complications from getting the vaccine? Am I the only one who really do not want the swine flu now when Im pregnant?
And then there are some that hardly get affected by the flu and then there are those that die from it....

Just wanted to reply to your post--I agree that the complications from the H1N1 flu could be awful for pregnant women, but have you stopped to consider that getting the shot does not make you 100% immune to the flu? I agree that it decreases your chances of getting it, but I know many people who get the seasonal flu shot every year and end up getting flu just as bad. There just isn't anything anyone of us can do to completely avoid the swine flu. My doctor told me that 90% of pregnant women will get the swine flu and our bodies will fight it off just fine. They haven't even been testing for swine flu since July, so how do we know that the women who have died really did have the swine flu? At least that's the reports that are coming out in the US.

I'm really not for or against the vaccine. I had the choice to get it today and I've skipped going over to get it. I've worried all week about it and something that makes me worry and stress this much; I feel is a sign that I shouldn't get it. In the US, I recently found out that we have a multi-dose vaccine or a single-dose vaccine. They were both approved for pregnant women, but the multidose was found to have thimerisol and mercury in it; which has been found to be unsafe in past vaccines. I've let my doctor office know that when they receive the single dose (if they ever get it) to give me a call and I will rush in there to get it. I'm a stay at home Mom and don't get out much at all--I think that is on my side.

EDIT: Also wanted to note that I have a slight allergy to eggs and that is what the vaccine is made from (chicken eggs) so I was weary of getting it. Just not ready to take the chance from the possible chance of an allergy reaction.

Hi

My MIL works at the hospital in the Special Baby Care Unit and she has lept me updated with the news that they get given regarding the vacines.

Aparently the one that we are getting in the UK is not licenced for women in their first trimester. It didn't explain why.

x

Hi all....This was on Good Morning America, and with the research they are doing, it is not harmful to the baby at any point through out the pregnancy. It was also stated that pregnant women only need 1 shot to get the full effect but children need to get two shots.

My Ob gives both the H1N1 and seasonal flu shot out free to all pregnant women regardless of trimester.

Exactly...they wouldn't give it to us if they thought it was bad for our bean. Think about how many people have died from it that were pregnant?? Then think about how many complications there is with people that have had the H1N1 shot?? Then make your decision. I am very confident in my decision

From France

Hi, just wanted to say that in France the shot is not advised until the 2nd trimestre. Also the authorities are giving priority to an adjuvant free version. This is the theory, vaccination for pregnant women is only starting next week.
