I have heard its best to get the shots after 14 weeks but i have not heard why.

I believe people in the US are more keen to have it as they have Celvepan (adjuvent and thermisol free) where as in the uk we have Pandemrix. You can request Celvepan but the GP then has to request it from the PCT on your behalf!

The midwife at my antenatal clinic today said that all pregnant women are advised to have the swine flu vaccine, regardless of how far they are into their pregnancy. Another nurse told my friend she wouldn't recommend it in the 1st trimester. There doesn't seem to be any clear guidance!

I've personally decided to wait till around 14 weeks just to make sure I'm clear of my first trimester. I have no medical evidence for choosing 14 weeks, it's just what I feel more comfortable with!

In Ireland they are specifically saying 'pregnant women over 14 weeks', so I'm waiting a few more weeks before I get mine. I'm going to try to get the Celvapan, as I figure the less I put into my body the better, right? The WHO has said that all vaccines are safe during pregnancy.

I had my h1n1 vaccine last week. I didnt feel anything when they did it (I was shocked when she said "ok, all done"! And have felt exactly the same as I did before the shot. (no side affects at all) My hospital is recommending the vaccine to all pregnant women in our community- no matter what trimester you are in. But I can see where you are more worried in when you are in 1st tri - cause I was more worried in first tri about everything too! Its a big decision - it is your body and your baby you are thinking about. I would talk with your gp also about it.

Just had mine: didn't wait for the non-adjuvant one, that would take an extra 1.5-2 weeks to get it, then 10-14 days to become immune. The one with adjuvant is deemed safe in pregnancy, other vaccines that have been administered to pregnant women (of all trimesters) for years contain adjuvant so there are years of data on which to base oneself and clearly state NO risk to fetus. With this one, by next week I'll be immune: my goal was to be immune BEFORE the start of my 2nd trimester, since women in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters are at highest risk if they get H1N1. There is no contra-indication to getting the vaccine before 14 weeks: some countries have limited supply and are giving priority to women 14 weeks +. If you can get it in the first trimester, do so for sure!!!

A lady nurse today told me it takes two weeks for the shot to take full effect and then you need a refill of the shot after 3 weeks, so approx it takes 5 weeks to get fully immune she said.
And about the fetus damage, I dont trust those hearings so much as they need an X number of complications to happen to even consider it be due a vaccine or medication then it need to be proved X times as well.
So I am still very uncertain about taking the vaccine or not, I am about 50% 50%. I suppose it depends if my dentist let me wait with my rootcanal til pregnancy is over, if he doesnt then I wont take the flu shot, if he does then I will take the flu shot as I refuse to do both rootcanal and flu shot when pregnant.

I have to say though that it's quite amazing how everyone is so afraid of the vaccine and the potential damage it could have on the fetus - but no one is giving second thoughts as to what the H1N1 can do to you or the fetus. You can get serious complications from this virus, and that can bring serious damage to you and your bean. But everyone would rather have that then risk taking the vaccine? Right now, how many more women are sick (or dead) in complications from the swine flu compared to complications from getting the vaccine? Am I the only one who really do not want the swine flu now when Im pregnant?

I agree, I don't understand the reluctance. People don't seem to understand that the risk is real. Until it hits close to home... 10% of pregnant women who have gotten it have ended up in intensive care, and the chance of coming out of it alive are slim... THAT is really scary
