Can you request an early scan?

Hello all.

I'm new to this site - you can read my 'Guess What' thread in the intro section if you like, but in short I'm 7 weeks now, but had a m/c at 8 weeks last summer. The baby had not developed beyond a few weeks, so I'm wondering whether I can request an early scan this time to make sure all is ok.

I do have the ph no for the midwife, but don't want to appear to be a fusspot!

I haven't had any bleeding this time, but I did have stomach cramps to about 6 weeks. The other thing which worries me is with both pregnancies I've had no sickness (so far), I know this doesn't mean things are going wrong but I'd just like to put my mind at ease.

Thanks

H

I think they only give you an early scan if something is wrong. My friend had a miscarriage (and is now pregnant again and almost 14 weeks, thank god!) and they wouldn't scan her early because aslong as she had no symptoms it would do more harm than good. If you think it would do more good than harm then there's no harm in asking, right? Good luck!

I'd say you would be able to given your history. Speak to the midwide and tell her your concerns. If you dont get any joy, ring the Early Pregnancy Unit - I didnt realise this but you can refer yourself if you are concerned.
I was worried yesterday. I really want to know that my HCG levels are rising. I went to the Drs and told them I was concerned and it was making me feel stressed and anxious and he was really good and referred me for a blood test. I feel much better now even though I dont get the results til next week.
Let us know how you get on.

Well... I think they should scan you anyway if they know of the past history.. but if you're that worried, and they refuse.. maybe a little white lie will have to get you in there... naughty I know, but if it makes you relax, that's gotta be a good thing... right??

i would try phoning the youe epu, most will see you given your history but it does depend on your area. i recently moved and the epu here have quite a tight policy on why they will see you. if you dont get any luck with your epu or doctor you could think about having a private scan, you can get them done after 6weeks, although you cant see much, you should be able to see the heartbeat.

Thanks for the replies.

I just want to know everything is going ok. I don't have any sickness and didn't last time either so this worries me most.

If you're genuinely worried give them a call and explain how anxious it is making you feel and hopefully they will offer you a scan. Know exactly how you feel hun i have had 2 miscarriages and would defo want an early scan to check everything is ok, good luck
