| morning sickness? you may find this interesting... Hey girls,
just thought I'd share my newly found wisdom with you. I've been suffering terribly from morning sickness the last few weeks and nothing seemed to help. Now my hubby is a pharmacist and actually has access to a safety in pregnancy database for different drugs. This is an evidence based site, that looks at studies that have been done etc, not guesswork!!
According to the database 'phenergan' (promethazine), a sedating antihistamine has been used safely for many years to treat morning sickness and is first line treatment. No teratogenic effects noted and as it's been around for many years a lot of data regarding its safety has been collected. If any of you suffer badly, speak to your doctor and you can get a prescription for this. Don't hesitate to take it. It is safe in pregnancy!! I was very worried, but hubby showed me the details and it all makes sense.
Strangely, ginger, which everyone thinks is perfectly safe, has NOT ENOUGH DATA TO CONFIRM SAFETY in pregnancy. So, natural doesn't always equal safe.

| Promethazine didn't work for me unfortunately so I had to change to a second line treatment (Prochlorperazine), do you have any information on that one? It works much better for me x | | | | Status: Online

| I used this drug with my first pregnancy and it was WONDERFUL! THe only problem is that it is very sedating and all I wanted to do was sleep, which was fine for my first baby (I was at home with no other kids!) but now I have two little ones to look after so I am trying other things.
One word of caution though: with my second pregnancy, I took one dose of this med and it landed me in the hospital with an irregular heart rate, which I later learned is a side effect. Not likely to happen to most women, but now I can't take it anymore which stinks! | | | | Status: Offline

| I have been having awful nausea and throwing up to everything i'm eating and drinking for the past 7 days so my GP priscribed half a phenargan and unfortunately it doesn't seem to work wonders for me. may be its because I'm only taking half a tablet a day. its very sedative so its making me sleep all the time and the rest of the time I'm feeling nauseatic. Do anyone suggest I ask my GO to increase it to one and then see..
What was the dosage prescribed by your GP? | | | | Status: Offline
