I heard the heartbeat!!! Chances of MC low now right?

I heard the heartbeat today at my gyn apt

For some reason I feel happier hearing the HB today then I did seeing an ultrasound last week lol.

My chances of mc go way down now right? Im 11 weeks and my gyn doesnt want to see me again until 16 weeks.

I have heard that if you hear a heatbeat from 8 weeks (it would have to be from a scan that early) the chances of miscarriage is 3%.

I am afraid to say that I have heard that risk of miscarriage is about 25% in the first 14wks - it can happen at any time.

Everywhere quotes different things!

If I were you I would be very sure that all will turn out well - congrats!!

I don't know that it means the risk of MC is lower The heart starts beating at around 6 weeks, but the MC rate is around 10% for the first 12 weeks, so even when the heart is beating, there's still a risk.

But you'll be glad to know that at 12 weeks it drops to 1% so you're 99% likely to have a bouncy baby at the end of this.

I can't quote because I am in the office but one of my pregnancy books definitely had that statistic there. When I get home I'll try and quote it.

This is a quote from the miscarriage association website. I know how difficult it is to remain positive Sandrass but you've got a great chance of this little baby sticking! That is what keeps me going this time.

If the scan picks up a heartbeat and the baby appears to be the right size according to your dates, this can be very reassuring. Research has shown that if you see a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy, the chances of the pregnancy continuing are 78%. A heartbeat at 8 weeks increases the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks to 99.4%. So things could still go wrong, but as long as there is a heartbeat, the risk of miscarriage decreases as the weeks go by.
