Group B Streptococcus - Strep B

My sister has mentioned this bacteria which a third of people carry.

Has anyone been tested or treated for it?

Just wondered what your thoughts were. My sister says her midwife rolled her eyes when she mentioned it to her and said it had been blown out of proportion in the press.

the test is to be done at the 30 week stage so we have plenty of time yet!! Ģ35 seems quite reasonable though so might do it myself! If ur a carrier antibiotics through the labour should prevent babe getting it! x

I did the test in my last pregnancy cos there was a lot of hype about it then. I think itīs best to get it done. You have to send off for the tests (canīt remember where from, got the number off This morning website, I think a rivate lab in London). They send you some swabs and you do them yourself (up the bum) and send it back, you get results about 2 wks later. You have to do it between 35 - 37 weeks (I think), or 32 - 35 (not sure which) so you should order them in advance.

I had tested positive for it 17 years ago with my daughter. They just treated it through IV antibiotics. I was 19 years old and really didn't know much about it and as long as the doctor treated it, I didn't feel like it is a big deal. I will look more into it now that i am a bit older and want to know EVERYTHING!
Good luck ladies! Today at 4 is my scan!!!!!!!!!!

I think Ģ35 is nothing compared to how bad you'd feel if you had it and didn't test. At least you know either way. I'm getting it done in a few weeks time.

im suprised theres not more written or known about it to be honest. It does sound scary. Even if it has been blown out of proportion itd probably be worth having the test.

Id never heard anything about it until today!

i have read abot it in one of my magz, they dont test for it here they do in other countrys think there is up raw about it and they are trying to get it on the list of test they give usjust as a routine check. but like some others have ut you can buy the swob and test tube and test for it yourself and you send it to the lab with a fee of Ģ30 or Ģ35 and they send your results back to you.
