Hey!

I have no idea actually! Have never heard that its not safe. Wouldn't see why though. . . . I personally am still eating everything as I used to, just cook my meat and seefood properly. . . Other than that, I just eat what I fancy. Wouldn't worry about it!

xxx

My sister almost died as a newborn, and it was related to my mother eating honey quite a bit. It was said that eating honey while pregnant can cause sids.
My sister was found in her bed blue, and it was just by chance that my mother had a instinct to check on her one more time. As soon as my mother picked her up she started to breathe. My sister has sleep apnea and was put on a sleep monitor every night for the better part of her childhood due to the fact that she would just stop breathing while she was sleeping.
There were numerous studies done, and it was found out that it was due to the honey.
So... take that as you may... but I will not be eating honey for a while.

Safe during pregnancy, but you can't give it to infants or babies under the age of 1.

I'd not heard of that, as far as I was concerned the Books all say it's safe, just not for children under 1 due to a potientially harmful toxin.

Maybe it's different if you eat too much honey during pregnancy?

I suffer from really bad hayfever and local honey was one of the homopathic ideas my MW suggested during my last pregnancy to help combat it and Josh is perfectly fine.

I am not saying that it would do the same thing to all people who ate honey, and yes perhaps it was too much honey... not sure. However, I just thought that I would throw the warning out there, and as far as I am concerned... better safe than sorry.

Where is it said that eating honey can CAUSE sids? Giving honey to an infant under 1 can cause sids due to botulism, however, I have found no evidence to suggest that honey in pregnancy causes sids. In fact, scientists have not found a cause for sids - only certain risk factors have been identified. A risk factor is not necessarily a cause for something. This is something I am interested in as my baby died suddenly shortly after birth and so I have read up on this and spoken to doctors. Please could you tell me where I can find these studies that you mention?

Here is a link from the Food Standards Agency about eating honey in pregnancy. http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandsta...henyrpregnant/

OK... I am not about to debate this issue. Maybe my wording was incorrect. I was not at any point saying that all sids is caused by honey. What I was saying is that my sister was almost a sids baby... and after MUCH testing 26 years ago it was determined that honey was in fact the cause.
I am not saying that honey could or would be the cause for the loss of your child. I was giving an instance in which I had personal experience.
Take it for what it is.
