Swine flu

Just watching the 10 o'clock news and the dreadfully sad piece about 2 pregnant women dying - are any of you now thinking of having it? Or are you all sceptical about the trials?

Hi

I am getting it. I am also on immunosuppressants for my crohns disease. I cannot take the risk of leaving myself more open for swine flu by not getting the vaccine. I also have another child to consider, and with me being immunocompromised, I'm at even higher risk than being pregnant too.

The European Medicines Agency has confirmed it safe, they say that its been made exactly the same way as the seasonal flu jab only difference they use a strain of swine flu.

It will not give u swine flu. Flu injections are not live vaccines. They inject a small amount of the dead viris. I know this is correct because I am not allowed live vaccines due to my immunosuppression.

Everyone is entitled to make their own choice, this information was what made me confident to go ahead. I trust it, same way I trust our doctors with delivering my baby and looking after me while pregnant.

Not a chance I would get it. However, if I was a person with a compromised immune system or underlying medical conditions, I would -possibly- reconsider. But I don't, and I've done enough research on it to raise too many questions to get it, especially whilst being pregnant. I feel for those two women who are dying from it, but it's good to keep in mind that the majority of news we hear are worst case scenarios and do not reflect the actual statistics.

It is, in the end, one of those things that is a very personal decision, and on the bright side, at least we have choice!

Yea - its very personal - they both died sadly. Like everything - MMR for kids etc etc we have to review, reflect and then make our own personal choice. x

Really tough one, like sue220972, I'm not sure about putting chemicals into my system... Just not sure if there's been enough testing to measure any long-term side effects.

Would be interested in others' thoughts, but agree with ThisTimePls, everyone must make their own personal choice. x x

I don't think I'll get the vaccine for the same reasons as above.

I completely understand why some may have no choice with a comprimised immune system, but I generally don't catch the flu and am willing to deal with beign sick so I don't have to put foreign chemicals in my body.
