I take Lexapro but am trying to cut down. I've heard Zoloft is safer. But I think both are a category C drug which should be used only if the benefits outweigh the risks. I do know people who took prozac during their whole pregnancy and were fine. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I have read that most problems are related to taking the meds after 20 weeks, so you have time

My dr referred me to this site:

hi, I take zoloft..... The midwife said it was ok although they have done much study on it during pregnancy. I need to take it, as the midwife said she would rather a happy mother and so would the baby. I tried to stop taking it around 6 weeks but i went down hill so it really wasnt a good idea to stop it. Hope this helps. What mg are you taking?

I was on anti depressants in one of my pregnancies and everything was fine. Altho they did say that some can cause a 'small for dates' baby which was the case for me... Scarlett was born a teeny 5lbs 15 ounces. Although she was very healthy and full term and soon piled on the weight after! Try and get to see your doc asap just to be sure.

I was on cymbalta and the doc said that it was a category C which meant that they weren't sure if there were side effects for the baby. They wanted to wean me off them slowly to minimise the withdrawal effect but i wasn't happy with the fact that they werent sure of the effects so i came off them practically "cold turkey" it was a rough 2 weeks but the withdrawals have eased a lot so i'm glad i did what i did. and my moods are starting to stabilise slowly

I'm on Cymbalta. When I spoke to my doctor about TTC, he recommended I change to Effexor. I did a LOT of research and spoke to Motherrisk here in Canada. Cymbalta is a cat C drug. Cat C doesn't mean that they don't know the risk. Most of the time it means that there have not been significant human trials. The animal trials on Cymbalta show no risk for birth defects. There have been 3 small human trials, all of which showed no birth defects.

The biggest risk for staying on anti-depressants is having a baby that cries and is a little more restless after birth. The risk is 10% compared to the 6-9% in a pregnancy where no drugs were used. There is also a risk of lower birth weight as per a PP.

I read an article last night from Motherrisk that states it is far more benificial for a mother to be medicated for depression than not. My doctor told me the same thing.

So, after much research and consideration I made the decision to stay on Cymbalta.

It is a personal choice though, and you need to be comfortable with whatever choice you make. I wish you the best of luck.

Fi
