Hi all

I am new to this forum and am so glad I found it. I had a sagittal sinus thrombosis (clot in the left brain) 2 and half years ago (my daughter was 2 then) all due to the pill apparently. Was on medication and warfrin from 6 months. Luckily I had a remarkable recovery.

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and was told by my gynae that my test results now show that my blood is clotting rather quickly so I started on clexane 3 days ago. I am very nervous and scared at the moment - hoping that everything will turn out alright. getting the hang of injection myself - not that painful anymore. but those of you who have been doing it longer than me does this harm the baby in any way? Is there a correct spot to inject? How does it affect breast feeding and I have read (perhaps done to much research in the alst few days) and can you have an epidural c-section on clexane.

Sorry for all the questions but feeling a little lost.

Hi all,

So sorry for what you have all been through, both with pregnancy loss and nasty blood clots and things. Brave women!

I am taking clexane following recurrent early miscarriages, am now 12 weeks, fingers crossed. I too have just got those awful big syringes with the white buttons, and can't get the hang of them, the instructions are rubbish! I don't like the spring thing inside. Also, the medicine always seems to drip out when I pull the cap off the needle, so am worried am not getting the full dose. There must be some kind of technique!

Haven't found it too painful, I have a tubby tummy so maybe that helps! I do it in different spots on my tummy, a couple of inches around the belly button.

This kind of drug can't cross the placenta so has no impact on the baby at all. In fact, it helps the placenta to stay strong.

If I get past my 12-week scan OK am going to ask my doctors some questions, e.g. about spinal anaesthesia, and will post any information that I find.

Best wishes for you pregnancies.

Just popping over from 2nd tri, i'm on twice daily clexane injections coz i have a history of 2x DVTs and was on lifelong warfarin therapy before getting BFP. Injections are very painful IMO and sometimes leave delightful lumps under the skin that take a few weeks to disappear but as someone has already said the medication does not cross through the placenta so baby is kept safe. All my scans have shown everything is normal and baby is very active as i type.

I have to stay on Clexane for as long as i choose to breastfeed but thats because i need anti-coagulants regardless of being pregnant. As for sites to inject I was initially injecting on either side of stomach but have found that the skin has tightened tremendously and its now very difficult to get injection in so i do it in my thighs instead.

R.E the epidural, it might be different policies for different regions but in Wigan you cant have an epidural unless its over 12hrs since your last injection. I was worried about bleeding during labour as im on a very high dose of clexane but been told ill be put on a drip to contract my womb to prevent excess bleeding however this does rule out waterbirth/home birth as an option.

Hope you all have a very healthy pregnancy and that the injections arent too painful

hugs xxx

ps i wouldnt worry about the lil drop at top of syrine that leaks out, they always put a tad more in than required and if you're having the monthly blood tests to check your levels that should put your mind at rest that youre getting the right dosage xx

I'm 7w1d, and just started on the clexane yesterday, because I have previous history of a MC, and family history of blood clots, etc etc, and I also have thrombophilia, and factor v leiden. * headdesk* So i'm pretty much stuck on it til six weeks afterwards lol.

I have a blood clot that currently sitting on top of my cervix atm, and today had a mahoosive bleed (no clots) ( Had this last week and thought i lost Peanut, and I haven't) So I hope that that was the blood clot dispersing :S

ANYWAY, sorry for the ramble lol. I'm on 40mg, daily, and currently shooting it into my tummey, and it HURTS!! IS there anyway to make it so it doesn't sting so bad?

i injected daily with luisa until the day before i was induced at 39 weeks

doing the same this time round..

re it stinging.. dont touch it after you have injected tht makes it worse and makes it bruise - you need to be really relaxed and not tensed - it kills if it goes into the muscle!!!

i have had the old and new needles.. tbh the new ones drive me mad they never spring back properly!!!

oh has injected everyday for me wen i was pregnant with luisa and same with this one up till 4 days ago wen i finally gave it a go myslef!!!

and finally re epidural- i had one with luisa as i was induced and that was why i had my last shot the night before induction so it had been 12 hours since.. and was fine xxxx
