I don't know if I'm just stupid but I've always heard it's only a problem if you have a coldsore when you actually have the baby. I think they're only spread through direct contact. I might well be wrong though, that's just what I seem to remember

I tend to suffer with more coldsores when I am pregnant as my immune system is at its lowest when pregnant and I have never been told it can affect the baby. Maybe they are confussed with herpes??

I had cold sores in my pregnancy with my son and had no problems. I also have had one already this pregnancy. I didn't think anything of it!!! I think as previously mentioned it is because our bodies are a bit run down.

I read in a magazine article that there was problems with one woman. But she had the coldsore when the baby was a few days old. But the important thing to remember was that she NEVER in her life had had a coldsore before so she hadn't passed the antibodies on to her baby while she was pregnant so the baby got very sick. So I would say that it is a GOOD thing that you have one now at least you will pass on all the antibodies to your baby. So please don't worry everything is fine!!

its only a problem if you have your first coldsore and come into direct contact with baby, seeing as baby not born yet this is not a problem. The one that can be dangerous is herpes, if you have your first outbreak of genital herpes during labour thats dangerous for baby - coldsore on the mouth is no probs hun especially if its not your 1st!
