Booking appt at 11 weeks pregnant - the chances they might try to hear the heartbeat?

I am having my booking appointment finally!

I will be 11 weeks by the time I go for it. I know they do routine checks but seeing as though I'm quite far along, will they try to hear my baby's heart aswel?

I'm just wondering because my hubby wanted to hear the heart beat for the first time as well but doesn't know if he should take the day off work for it. I don't want him to be taking time off work so soon unless it's for something significant like this.

What do you think?

Are you specfically going for a scan or are you just going to see the doctor?

If you are going for a scan, you should definately be able to hear the baby's heart. You can hear the heartbeat as early as about 5 weeks I think.

Good luck with everything!

If it is a booking in appt with the MW, then they dont listen to the heartbeat till your 16week appointment, what i would recommend is getting an angel sounds doppler you can use them from 10+ weeks, i heard my babies heartbeat from 9+4

My midwife brought out the doppler at my 11 week appointment (aka 12 week appointment), but it wasn't my first visit, so I can't say that will be the case for you.

My MW in my last pregnancy didnt do it till after 20 weeks, i think mainly because sometimes its hard to pick up babys heartbeat so she leaves it so not to scar you althoughh this time if everything turns out alright im hoping she checks earlier

I had my booking appointment (before my booking scan) at 11 weeks + 6 and she didn't listen to the heartbeat.
Midwife didn't listen to the heartbeat until my 16 week appointment xx

I think it varies from midwife to midwife but I think generally no they won't (unless obviously you have a scan - heard my bean's HB at 8 weeks!!). I asked this Q on a different website yesterday and everyone said no - I have my appt on Wed when I will be 13+6...hopeless!!! Have you been asked to take a urine sample to yours?

xx

For the booking appt they won't listen to the baby's heartbeat. its just lots of paperwork really, BP etc. I didnt hear it till i was 16 weeks with my first. Altho my midwife this time said to book an appt after i've had my scan and he will have a listen. Hmm we will see tho, lol

they will not listen for a heartbeat at that stage of pregnancy. if u have a scan you will be able to see the heartbeat but not at just a normal appointment with your midwife.
