Swine flu vaccine

OK, I'm really stuck on what to do, I am classed in 2 of the high risk categories, pregnant and through work, but am really not sure if I want it or not... it just seems far to rushed for my liking, the annual flu vaccine is used with the same carrier, so that one doesn't concern me so much, however I'm just not convinced, I think my midwife is also very mixed on the risks and benefits and was waiting for official guidance, but I was wondering what advice other had been given and general thoughts...

I've already been suspected of having swine flue so have taken the tamiflu - therefore I don't think i'd be expected to have the vaccination.

However if they contacted me about it I don't think i'd have it anyway. I agree that it seems very rushed and it hasn't been tested on pregnant women so there's no knowing how it could affect our unborn babies. i don't want to take any risks!

That's what they are doing to me too! They "diagnosed" me with swine flu today and are trying to give me an inhaler (starts with s) because pregnanat women can't take the pill. Anyway I said no to that because the dr says it's probably ok but have no studies to show otherwise. Unfortunately probably isn't good enough for me so I am sticking it out. Can't get out of bed anyway so won't be hard....they said it's only a problem to the baby if I get a fever..so watch that But otherwise fluids and rest!

Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry I just reread your post. I didn't realise you weren't sick already. If it's just the vaccine I wouldn't hun if you're not comfortable don't take it. Sorry

Hi I am just in visiting from wtt/ttc land -1 more day until my coil is out woohoo.

I also work in healthcare and if fall pg in first few months I too will be very concerned about taking the vaccine. It does seem to have been really rushed, dont drug trials normally go on for years n years in some cases?

I'd be reluctant enough to take it not being pregnant, but once pg with my little bean I am not taking the risk. Remember thalidomide (sp?) - given to pregnant women for relieving morning sickness, I wonder how well that was tested prior to administration?

xx

Also this thread which has more input from those who choose to get the vaccine, so there's more responses on both sides in this thread

I did think that there would be threads in first tri, but when searched never came up with these ones, thanks mastermind xx

It is all so confusing, even though I will be encouraged through work to get it that isn't my first priority, it is my bubs, but I have had flu... and it was grim, landed with a chest infection after that and had a chest infection last year... does that make me higher risk?? or cut my odds of having chest complications as i have already had my dose??? It is all such a mind field AARRGGHHHH
