Flu Vaccines...

Has anyone's doctor told them that they have to get the flu and N1H1 Vaccines? I am nervous about getting them, I have never had the flu before and heard from many people that they got sick with the flu following getting the vaccines...
Just wondering how many of you have been told to get them and are going to?

My doctor can tell me to all he wants but he can't make me do it and I'm not doing it. He will be wasting his breath if he attempts to talk me into it.

I am not getting either of them. I am not getting the H1N1 vaccine because I refuse to force my little gummy bear to be a guinea pig for it. I am already starting out what appears to be a high risk pregnancy, I'm not taking chances with a new vaccine.
I had been going back and forth on getting the "regular" flu shot until I heard on the news and from other sources that the flu shot is INCREASING the chances of getting H1N1. I am not taking that risk either. If I get the flu, I get the flu. I don't have a compromised immune system, I think I will be ok.

From what I've read the main concern regarding pregnant women is the fact that later in pregnancy we all have reduced lung capacity and can more easily end up with pneumonia. While that IS a valid concern, I personally haven't ever had even the regular flu before so I don't feel like I'm high risk for getting sick. If I do get sick, I will be paying very close attention to my symptoms and getting medical attention at the first sign of illness. I just don't think I need a vaccine though when I've never had any sort of flu in my life without any flu vaccine before. I also rarely go out of my house so I have pretty low exposure risk.

So for me personally it seems like a wise decision. I know some women have much higher risks of getting ill though, like teachers and hospital employees, and they have to take more precautions than someone like me would need. I don't feel like the vaccine is unsafe to take, just not necessary for everyone in every situation.

I have similar views on it. The vaccine hasn't been around long enough, and as always, there is debate about its effectiveness and ingredients (timeless debate that) and like some others here, I've never had a flu shot anyway, and feel having a strong immune system is my best defense. So I'm opting out of it.

I'm undecided as yet. However, just wanted to point out that every year the flu vaccine is new - the flu and H1N1 vaccines this year are new vaccines just like these ones.

I don't think anyone should be too hasty - we all want to do the best for out beans, but not getting the vaccine might not be the *best* thing. I personally am going to do some research on it before deciding.

And we are pregnant, therefore our immune systems are compromised, hence being offered the vaccine.
