Nuchal Testing

Just wondering if people have decided whether to have it done or not? At the moment I'm thinking that I'd rather not have it as it seems soooo many people are told they are "high risk", spend ages worrying and then have a perfectly normal baby.

Just trying to gather more information at this point really!

I don't even know if my NHC PCT offer it as standard or not - this is another thing to add to the ever growing list of things to ask the midwife.........

nope not having it done. Like you say I would only worry if it came back high risk and even if it gave you answer 100% anyway, I wouldnt change my decision to have bubes.

Having the test won't change the outcome, it's just managing the results and making those decisions is what we need to all do calmly. For those who do have poor results and a poor outcome it is a blessing to be able to find out, to give baby a chance to fight whatever ailment is going on. On the other hand, finding out results and being able to prepare for whatever child comes into our lives is important to us as well. If he / she is disabled in whatever way, it's good to be aware and prepared.

The fears of the high risk worries are there, don't get me wrong. I think we all need to stand up and be very strong with our choices and decisions. IF we go for testing and it comes back high risk, then what? Deciding before hand can make a big difference to our suffering. It's true, most cases babies are born healthy regardless of their risk factors, but to be eligible for a cvs or amnio to find out 100% you must go through the nt scan procedure.

We don't get it as standard, but we do get the 16 week blood test if we like. I think I've decided against it - if it did come back high risk I'd worry more about it than I am now not knowing either way.

I have done a little digging around and apparently my PCT only offer this free if you are 40+

The test is £100 otherwise. I am 31 and in good health so unless my triple test results at 16 weeks give any cause for concern I think I will give it a miss.
