Dating scan....

Hi was interesting to no if the dating scan is taken from your last af or does it go by the measurements of the baby? i went for my scan yesterday and she dated me at 12+2 but that would make my last af 29 June and i no it was 27 i no its only two days but it bugging me lol.

12+2 its a term used to date your pregnancy 12 weeks 2 days af is a word for period.

It's a bit of both chick. They have a rough idea of how far along you are by your last af. They take it by the measurements after that, and 2 days out is about the norm, not every baby grows at the exact same rate, and you have to take into consideration when it implanted etc etc. So I wouldn't worry about that at all! I'd be more annoyed if it was a week out! Lol xx

The AF date is the best guess before you have your scan, but assumes that you ovulated on day 14 of your cycle. The dating scan measure the baby and the computer automatically says the baby is however old accoring to the measurement. It doesn't mean you got your AF dates wrong it just means you ovulated 2 days later, i.e on the 16th day rather than the 14th.

2 days isn't enough of a difference to even think about really. Especially when you consider the fact that the baby could easily be born 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after it's actual due date. It's pretty rare for a baby to be born on it's due date.

Also, since you are over 12 weeks now (even though just slightly) dating scans start getting less accurate as time goes on because after 12 weeks babies start growing at different rates depending on genetics, mother's nutrition, environment, etc. But considering that the date you have is just used to determine your due date, and that can vary by more than a month, a few days plus or minus isn't going to effect anything.

I date was changed by 4 days after my scan. I knew when my last period was a bit nervious about the change but then I remember that my ovulation was all over the place and I didnt even know when I ovulated the month bean was conceived. Dont fret over it.......

mine was done by measurments no argueing i was told lol!! if it had gone by last af id be due valentines day but she said its 2th of feb the baby is growing exactly as he should so i guess i just ovulated late or something but iv always been told it goes by scans
