cold/flu..does anyone have any home remedies?

Hi ladies. Has anyone had a cold in first trimester? I'm feeling absolutely full of it today (hoping it's not swine flu!), and wondered if anyone knew of any good home remedies to make me feel better. I really don't want to take any paracetamol and have no choice but to keep going as OH is at work and I need to get my daughter from nursery soon and my older children from school later.
I'm aching all over, have a headache, so so tired and my nose is blocked.

Hey you!

I know what you mean about the paracetamol but please try this remedy, it works a wee treat.

2 paracetamol and hot lemonade!

hope you're feeling better soon

I had a cold right when I found out. I took paracetamol as couldn't bear it and used Vicks but I also took this -
* 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
* 1 Tablespoon honey
* 1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
* 2 Tablespoons water
Mix and take by the teaspoon.
- which is really for a cough but the ginger and cayenne pepper really helped clear my nose and is very warming. I didn't think it tasted bad at all and the ginger made me hope it would help with morning sickness!

That sounds really good littlemissy. Thanks! I'll send my OH out later for the ingredients.

Hot lemonade? Never thought to try that either. I'll give that a go while I'm waiting for OH.

xx

I have a good one but not very pretty You won't feel anything bad though, trust me. I've already shared here once and I can swear by it.
Make a hot tea, add a spoonfull of raspeberry jam, with whole raspeberries. Add a tea spoon of unsalted butter (yes I know it's disgusting, but you won't feel it when you drink it). If you have it, add a teaspoon of brandy; I usually skip brandy and it works without it too. This will make you sweat and you'll be like new in a couple hours.

Sorry to hear your feeling pants Saffy... i got taught this by a chef and it works great if your all 'heady' and blocked up...
grate a little bit of ginger add hot water, teaspoon (or 2) of honey and either juice of 1/2 a lemon or a dash of lemon juice and a small clove of garlic (chopped up)
tastes lovely, works a treat and usually have the ingredients in your cupboard...

Hope you feel better soon... xxx

sorry you are feeling like this hun! if your temp is rising you really do need to take paracetamol. Its completely safe in pregnancy. like you i wont take meds unless absolutely necessary both when i am and am not pregnant but you must get that temp down.
