| Scans / dates? Hey all - new here!
I have no idea how far pregnant I am! I don't have regular periods, so that doesn't help, and don't really write down when we've been getting jiggy (altho that wouldn't help much as obv. you can concieve any of those times).
If I were to hazard a guess I'd say 8wks - but really I have no idea! I'm judging from tiredness, sickness and sore boobs!
My midwife appt. is next weds. I've been reading these boards and don't want to have to wait like some of you ladies, weeks and weeks for a scan.
How do they set up appts. for dating scans - will they give me one as I can't give a date?Or will they make me wait until they think I am 12 wks, even though there is no way of knowing dates?
Is it done at the hospital (dating one that is) - and is there anyway I could speed it up?
This will be my first, hence some potential silly questions!

| Hey there and welcome.
I don't know if it works the same for you up there.
They can tell how far you are by taking a blood test. They read how high you HCG levels are.
My last pregnancy I also had no clue and they worked it out by a blood test and an early ultrasound. | | | | Status: Offline

| Cool, thanks Gabi, silly question: they'll have to obv. send off the blood sample - how long does it take to get the results back do you think?
I'm so impatient! I'm trying not to get too excited til I know I'm 12 weeks, but at this rate I have no idea so can't even plan when to be excited!! lol! | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | I not sure about everywhere but I know some will give you an earlier that usual scan to see how far along you are if you really don't have a clue. Your midwife may well suggest this when you go to see her. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | You might tell them that you are unsure of how far along you could be, sometimes they will send you for a dating scan. |

It does work differently here though. The first check up is an ultrasound too. The blood test isn't an appointment. You just phone the dr tell him/her you're pregnant, they send you over to pathologists for a blood test then phone back with your results.
Hopefully you wont have to wait too long but trust me the time will fly. Before you know it you'll know how far you are etc etc etc | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | With my first two pregnancies, I knew around the time I conceived. But this time around, since unplanned, I have an idea...going into my 9th week.
I told my doctor I was unsure and he said that they will be able to tell during my first ultrasound. Unfortunately, it's not until the end of March. LOL Talk about waiting. | | | | Status: Online

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hello Welcome to Baby and Bump! Congratulations on your pregnancy, wishing yo a very healthy & happy one! It does vary over the country, some places would send you for an earlier scan than others. x |
