Midwife told me over the phone I am miscarrying?? Help!! *UPDATED*

So I just got off the phone with my nurse-midwife and had a rather alarming conversation. I have a few times now had a lot of thin, watery discharge. The first time, I woke up in a 'wet spot', and rushed off to the bathroom to see if it was blood. It wasn't. It was clear like water. I went back to sleep but later in the day noticed that the sheet had dried with a sort of stain, which concerned me. Then later today I was walking home from going out to eat, and felt myself suddenly pretty wet. I checked it out once in the bathroom and there was the same stuff, only this time there was pink in it. I was slightly alarmed at that point, so I called my nurse-midwife afterhours.

She basically told me I am miscarrying. I was sort of shocked by her lack of reassurance that everything was probably okay, which I guess I was expecting... She wants to get me in tomorrow to check for heart tones, and if those can't be found, to do an ultrasound. She told me she was sorry this was happening because I'd already seen a viable pregnancy and strong heart tone, and that it must be hard. She was nice, but seemed totally resigned to the 'fact' that I am having a miscarriage. She even told me to put down a towel before I sleep in case I bleed heavily during the night and pass tissue. I'm so confused. I've been staying positive through this pregnancy, spotting brown, red, pink periodically, bad cramping, bleeding a scary amount... Right now, I haven't seen any bright red blood, and I just had sex last night...

Has anyone had similar discharge with a positive outcome? I didn't realize this was such a significant sign that someone is miscarrying...

Update: I got back from the clinic a while ago. I saw a different midwife for my exam. She told me she probably wouldn't be able to get me in for an ultrasound today but she would test to see if the fluid was amniotic fluid or just discharge, and we would try to listen for a hearbeat. The test came out negative. She said my water wasn't broken. Then we listened for a heartbeat. She tried for a long time and all I could hear was my own heartbeat. It was so terrifying and distressing. My boyfriend was holding my hand so tight. She finally said "I'm sorry. We're not going to hear it today" and I thought it meant everything was over. But then she moved the doppler one more time and I heard the sound of galloping horses! She said "Wait! I was wrong!" and I started laughing in relief. She said "Go ahead and cry!" and while I didn't cry, my boy teared up a little. It was a healthy heartbeat at 160. I already have an ultrascreen scheduled for next week, and she said that for now, I should rest assured that everything looks perfect!!! I am so happy. I can't believe the other midwife scared me so badly. I said something to the midwife I saw today and she said she would say a little something to the other midwife about her 'beside manner'. I feel so so relieved right now. Thank you all for your well wishes and positive energy!

I've heard this too many times from people, it's frustrating! I think the medical community knows so many pregnancies end before the 12th week that it's just almost - expected. If there's a problem before that, it's probably a miscarriage. Their apathy comes from this happening so much over and over in their lives, that's what I think.

Personally, I like how my doctor talked to me about my pregnancy. I came in with spotting at 9 weeks and she said to me, "The only way we can tell what's going on is by a blood test and an ultrasound, until we get the results it could be anything." I liked the neutral aspect of it.

Try not to worry about what might not happen, i know this is easier said than done however. Did she say that you water may have broken? You may just have heavy discharge. When are you going in to be checked?
Ive been told so manytimes not to stress unless im bleeding.
Hope all is ok. x

It was clear and like water, but with a slight odor. The next time I had it, it had a little bit of blood, either pale pink or brown, it was hard to tell. I wasn't horribly alarmed by it at the time. Lots of weird stuff has happened this pregnancy. I also had sex last night so I figured it might have just been tinted with that.

I guess they're scheduling me an ultrasound right away tomorrow to find out.

I've had 5 MC's and not one has started this way, she sounds like a muppet for making you worry like this.

Sounds more like an infection with the odor.

Hope you get sorted today.
