gossip at work already!!!dont know how to handle it!

i work in a primary school, very close knit school, everyone knows everyones business kinda place. the first week back i had my first midwife appointment so had to have time off for that and my absence at a big assembly was noted by all the staff. then i was off last thurs and fri as i just couldnt get out of bed due to dizziness and sickness.
i spoke to my head today to tell him i was feeling better adn would be back in this week, to which he told me that rumours are already flying about, and he pormises he hasnt said anythng-i told him after my midwife appointment and told him not to say anything, wich he promised me he wouldnt say a word to anyone untill i told him to. he said that people are putting things together and coming up with the fact i am pregnant.
i do believe he hasnt said anything, as i know what people are like at the school, and i suppose it doesnt help teh fact that i have put on tonnes of weight over the summer hols and also last wewek i suddenly bloated up big style-am now just over 8 weeks. i am just strssing myself out, i dont like the fact people are talking about me and i know i am crap when people ask waht was wrong i will sound so silly and obvious when i say i had a stomach bug!

plus i do find it hard as i constantly feel sick and constantly need ot be eating to help me stop feeling so queasy! just dreading this week at work!
sorry for the rant

AWw hun, is it a bad thing if they know, I mean would solve trying to hide everything.

ALso so what if there talking about you, it doesn't matter and I doubt it's vindictive in anyway!

Hope all goes well xxx

It sounds like they pretty much already know anyway....I think I'd be more of the mindset to just let the cat out of the bag and get on with it, so it's one less thing. There's no reason to think anything is going to go wrong, but in some event that it did, I would like to think the people there would be understanding. I understand desiring privacy until the first trimester is over though, but in this case, it doesn't sound like you're going to be able to keep it a secret that long with everything going on.

Wow, loved reading this post. I too work in a primary school and we have a two week break soon (in 2 weeks time). When I come back I will be 10 weeks but with the way that I am already looking podgy, they are so going to guess before my first appointment. I think that the only way around it, is to find out what kids have gone down sick and with what. Then, when the staff try to ask the tricky questions of me, I will deflect with, "gee it must be going around, what about <insert child's name here>, they looked really unwell!?!" My teachers love kids so much they won't be able to not talk about the kids! -pray this works!
