Blighted Ovum

First let me say ive seen all your notes and I cant say how grateful I am that so many people care and were thinking of me, thankyou.

Ive been diagnosed with a blighted ovum, which is definitely not a good thing.
For those who don’t know what that is:
It can be described as a large empty sac on the scan is a sign of a "blighted ovum", where conception occurred and the fertilised egg implanted in your womb but the baby did not develop. A blighted ovum can happen to anyone. It usually happens accidentally, and most women go on to have a successful pregnancy next time.
Although the causes aren't fully understood, a blighted ovum is generally considered to be an accident of nature. When an egg is fertilised by a sperm, the cells begin dividing. Some cells develop into the baby, and others develop into the placenta and membranes. Sometimes the part of the fertilised egg that is to become the baby fails, (probably because a mistake has occurred during fertilisation, and there are too many or too few chromosomes) but the part that is to become the placenta and membranes is successful, so the pregnancy sac continues to grow inside the womb, and the placenta starts to form.
Your body doesn’t recognise that there is no baby developing inside the sac, because pregnancy hormones are still being produced which prevent a miscarriage.
This is pretty scary as my sac has continued to grow.
This afternoon I had started to get very sharp stabbing like pains in my abdomen and went straight to hospital. These were contractions. After lots of tests and uncomfortable positions I was diagnosed with the blighted ovum. I was given the tablet (that they use on women in labour) to make my uterus contract more. I passed something’s at the hospital, but didn’t get to see what. I won’t pass anything major more then blood now, and more pain. I have been given pain meds and sent home for 24 hrs. I have to return to ensure my uterus has stopped contracting and all is done and ok.
I am so incredibly sad at the moment but grateful nothing has lived and died throughout this ordeal.
I do have pictures of my uterus in which you can clearly see the blighted ovum, anyone that would like to see this is quite welcome to pm me, I don’t mind sharing.
My gyn said there is no problem in conceiving again, and I shouldn’t have any troubles nor should this affect my next pregnancy.

Thankyou again for all your kind words of support

xox

Soontobe,

I am so sorry you had to go thru this.

It happened to me In Dec 5th. It's weird isnt it? I never knew about it until it happened to me.

Dont think it's not a good thing. It is more common than we think. It is just 'bad luck' as my doc called it.

I hope you dont go thru that again
