I'm Currently Feeling: | Babys Heartbeat?? Hi I have been having weekly scans from 5 weeks as I have a massive cyst which has been causing me pain. At six weeks the babys heartbeat was detected then the following week a different doctor scanning me could not find the heartbeat - I was told to come back in 8 days and to my dismay when I returned to the hospital it was the same doctor who had scanned me the previous week (he did not instill much confidence in me as neither him nor the midwife could see the sac on the screen even though I could!!). He still could still not detect a heartbeat but said the sac had grown?? I asked to see someone else for second opinion - a lady scanned me and said there was definately a small foetus about 3mm in a sac of 1.7cm but she could not detect a heartbeat - I was 8 weeks at this stage and I feel the heartbeat should have been there. I was so annoyed that I did not even ask the doctor why the sac would still be growing if I had maybe miscarried - can anyone answer this? I said I was not going back to the hospital until I was 12 weeks (if I still felt pregnant at this stage) as they are not able to give me any resolution or answers and my head isall over the place - the waiting is a nightmare!!! I am not bleeding and I still feel pregnant but the stress and annoyance I am suffering every time I attend the hospital is enough to cause me to have a miscarriage if I havent already had one!!
I know my dates are 100% correct so there is no possibility of me thinking the baby is older than it is.
Anyone got any advice or been in a similar situation? I would really like to hear from you if you have....... | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | I've been told that sometimes it's difficult to get a heartbeat before 12w depending on where the implantation was... the location of the placenta... Sorry no more info, but will be thinking of you. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Even though the heart would be beating if your dates are accurate, it's often so tiny that they can't see it that early. Mine was detected at a scan at 9 weeks. Is it possible that you're not quite as far as you think as at this stage even a few days out could make a difference.
I really hope it goes well for you. |

| If the sac is growing then you haven't miscarried.
When I went for my 9 week check up the gynae couldn't find a heartbeat. He told me to go back a week later and the only thing he checked was the sac. He said if he still couldn't find a heartbeat but the sac was growing then obviously the u/s just cant pick up the heartbeat yet. The lack of a heartbeat didn't really concern him too much. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | At my last scan I was 13 weeks along and it took them 15 minutes to find the heartbeat, the technician said that this was quite common since it was still pretty early and the baby is still very small. She said that by my next visit when I'll be 17 weeks along that the heartbeat will be much easier to hear. On a side note we went to the ultrasound later in the day and they had no problems seeing the heartbeat on the screen, I hope this makes you feel a little better. |
