Question about first midwife appt

hey all,

I got a letter from the hopsital saying i have two appointments. it says that the first one is for blood tests which will be taking for pregnancy screening. first of all, what does that mean !? and...being as thats the first appointment, i thought they take ur blood pressure and ur weight etc and ask u questions about ur health etc ... but it doesnt mention that on the letter.. and the second appointment is only saying its for nuchal transluency scan.

can anyone help ?

Its ok hon, its normal to get your blood taken at your first appointment or 2nd. I had to go to the labs after my first appointment for blood tests and the scan is probably to check the baby and for dates. I don't remember exactly what they screen for but I'm sure one of the girls on here will know. But don't worry, its completely normal

hi, ive just had my 12 week first app today. First i was with the midwife where i was given my maternity record. I was also weighed, height taken, urine sample tested (had to bring one with me) and took blood pressure.
I then went down to the blood ward where they took 5 small tubes of blood (using one needle) Im not back now till 20 week scan.
They also discussed the triple test where they test for downs but that is a drop in clinic so would go seperatly.
Did think they'd listen for hearbeat today but she said it was abit soon

just read your other bit, the bloods are to check for for rubella, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, Syphilis and haemoglobin (Just read the leaflet!)
