Incompetent cervix?

Hi everyone,

I am after a bit of advice really! I am currently 12 weeks pregnant with number 2. DS was born @ 30 weeks and we really didn't hear why he came early. We are now being told it was due to pre eclampsia although there was no mention of it at the time.

What I am really worried about is that it wasn't pre eclampsia and it was somehthing like an incompetent cervix. I arrived at the hospital already dilated and having contractions and remained like this for 4 days, whilst they tried to stop labour. They then decided they couldn't and would just let it go. Thankfully DS was perfect and came out of it well.

Has anybody had any experience with incompetent cervix? Is labour long or short? Are there any other symptoms I would be able to put my finger on that would help convince medics to treat me for this as well as the pre eclampsia, I am taking meds to prevent this happening.

TIA

HI hun what u have explained doesnt seam to tie in really with IC, basicly ur most at risk between 16-27wks.. so ur just ouside the bracket, most people who suffer mid tri losses its down to IC, now basicly an IC basicly measn ur cervix opens with no or very little warnning, genrally u have no contractions. and it cant be held of as its the sheer weight of the baby on the cervix opens it up. So the fact that u held of for 4 days and that u had contractions tells me that its not IC.

Also i note abut Pe mentioned did u have high bp can u remember them doin liver function tests ect... Its very com,mon to have a prem adn enver b told why but then when u go onto have another u clearly want answers..

I speak from experince as i've had 7 babies..

33kws
22wks
28wks
27wks
25+5wks
24+3wks
25+6wks

In the last 3 my waters have gone in the 18th week due to cervix probems, mine shortens and funnels(allows the bag of waters to sit in the cervix) then the repssure of that makes them go, but then i dont dialate, can have a sitich but since i dont actually dialate they dont thinkthiers any point as the waters would still go.

Good luck with getting some answers but be prepared to not get any adn just play the wait and see game xxx

Thanks for your response.
I did have liver functions tests, when DS was 3 days old and they were high. Since then they have been ok. I also did have high bp extremely high 3 days before but stupid GP said it came down whilst in his office so it was ok. I am swinging more towards it being PE but I thought I would try and cover all the avenues.
You are obviously very courageous to go on to have more babies and I take my hat off to you. It is a very scary experience.

Hi hun...

Yeh that all ties in with PE hun... but ur rite to want to make sure but with live function adn high bp your almost curtainly had PE. problem with that in its own right that after you've had it once your more at risk the next time of PS, so keep resting and watch out for the signs of onset hun best of luck x
