Question

Ovarian Cysts and pregnancy

I started to bleed yesterday and had really bad pains on my left side I was concerend that these are signs of an ectopic so in the middle of the nite when it got worse I went to the maternity admissions - I was seen within about 15 mins which was very good. Turns out I have a huge cyst on my left ovary which is giving me the grief - apparently any cyst under 5cm can be beneficial to the baby but unfortunately mine is much larger than that!! The doctor said it will not go away on its own and has probably twisted which is causing me the pain - she said as the baby grows it may burst which isin't good or else I may have to get it drained which means keyhole surgery which I would not be happy about as there is a risk to the baby. Just wondering has anyone else had anything similar or heard of any ways of rectifying this problem?? I woiuld appreciate your thoughts on this...

I am 6 weeks.......

They discovered an ovarian cyst on one of my niece's during her first pregnancy. I know that it did cause her some pain, but from what I remember (it was over 8 years ago) there wasn't much they could do about it. They were supposed to remove the cyst after the baby was born but my niece bled a lot during delivery so they decided against it.

hey hun, I found out I have a 6-7cm cyst on my right ovary that has been giving me problems/pains for about a year before i found out I am pregnant. I also found out my papsmear from right before I became pregnant was abnormal so it was alot to take in and alot to worry about. Well, I just had to have another papsmear (it's about 3/4 months later) so I'm waiting on those results, but my Dr. said that even though I'm getting pains from my cyst, that it should be ok since I'm not experiencing excrutiating pain. So I'd say that unless it's really causing you concern and you're doubling over in pain that it would be ok until after birth. Mine only hurts when I make very sudden moves like sitting up too quickly or bending over to quickly. Sorry if this isn't too helpful, but personally, I don't want to risk any procedures until after birth if its possible. (They wanted me to get a colposcopy and possibly laparoscopic surgery to remove the cyst, but that was prepregnancy).
I hope you feel better and that it doesn't cause you too much trouble!
