Unhappy

full of a cold

hi all - hope you're having a nice festive time. I'm feeling sorry for myself, am full of a stinky cold and all my pharmacist said I could use was a nasal wash thing. Basically sea water to wash my nose out. I asked about actifed and other medicines and she looked horrified at the very idea.
so i hope that'll help. OOf. This cold wont hurt baby will it???

I had a nasty sinus infection that has turned into pneumonia. The doc said I could take robitussin DM, tylenol and sudafed nasal decongestant. I don't know if it's cause I'm in the 2nd tri and all drugs should be avoided, if possible, in the first. Try using an humidifier in your bedroom, right next to your bed...I got the inhalant stuff and put in mine so it makes the room menthol-y and easier to sleep. Feel better!

I'm just getting over a nasty cold and I used hot lemon tea to help out. I wasn't willing to try any meds, not comfy with the idea

Urrrrgh I feel your pain I feel bloody awful at the minute Cant keep anything down, its a nightmare.

I went to the pharmacy today and asked if I could take anything and the woman just said 'nope', smiled and walked away. I could have strangled her.

Keep your vit C up and get lots of rest, hopefully you'll feel better soon!

Hope you´re feeling better soon.

One thing my neighbour has recommended to me in the past for a stuffy nose, is to put some honey on a cotton bud and wipe it around the inside of both nostrils - sounds disgusting I know, but at the time I wasn´t even pregnant and over the counter stuff just wasn´t doing anything for me. I tried it out and that was the first proper nights sleep I had, didn´t wake up once due to my nose being blocked. Apparently honey has some kind of eosotheric (sp?) oil in it, that helps clear the nose. I do this all the time now whenever I have a cold and it really helps. Its a bit gross when you blow your nose the next morning, but a good nights kip is more imprtant!!

Another little remedy I´ve picked up from my neighbour is if you have a very bad cough. Chop up two large onions, stick em in a bowl and cover them with about 2 inches of sugar. Cover the bowl and leave for a couple of hours. After a while, the sugar dissolves into the onions and you get a bit of liquid in the bowl. Keeping spooning off the liquid and take as many times during the day as you like - again it sounds gross, but the liquid doesn´t actually taste as bad as it sounds, quite sweet really. We had friends staying wth us and their little boy had a really chesty cough, we gave him this stuff and the next day there was a huge difference in his cough.
