hey

hiya,

I wouldnt worry too much unless anyone in your household gets any symptoms. Pregnancy doesnt actually put you on the vulnarable list when it comes to swine flu, so even if you was to get it, you will be fine.

It is nasty but i wouldnt worry too much. As your immune levels are lowered during pregnancy i would just make sure that you keep handles and things clean.

Hope that helps!

I don't think so. I'm a teacher and a local primary has two children with symptoms and they haven't closed the school. All the kids got letters advising them to be hygenic and be aware of the symptoms. However, as I'm in first trimester I'm really worried about being in contact with all these kids all day! My advice would be to get some of that anti-bacterial hand lotion, the one that you can just put onto your hands without water, and teach your daughter how to use it. The advice is wash hands BEFORE and AFTER going to the loo, before you eat, etc. Don't share bottles, drinks, food. And periodically use the hand lotion. This is the advice that I'm going to follow. Google swine flu and have a look at the NHS direct site. I can'tpost the link as I'm too new! If I find anything else out in the three days left (yipee!)I'll put it on here.

My eldest daughters school got it last week and never informed anyone, we onyl found out after it was published in the local paper! I have taken her out of school, with me being pregnant and Evie still being very tiny and vulnerable im just not prepared to take the risk.

The thing is what they dont take into account is what the students home situations are. There could be pregnant parents, small babies, people with chronoc illnesses or people having chemo, all of which are in the highest risk group.

I found out today aswell that a child in my other daughters school - in her class has swine flu. She will now not be going back to school!

I know some people will think this is over the top, but im sure that those who have lost people to this virus already are thinking if there was anything they could have done to have prevented their loved ones from contracting it.

hey

diagnosis is now just over the phone to tr and stop the spread at doc's surgery so it wont be 100% that it is swine flu... however just a warning it is expected to be a worse strain this winter.

If you have any symptoms you should phone the doc asap and he will prescribe medication before it gets hold.

keep using antibacterial hand gels when your daughter goes into school and out of school to try and stop it reaching her and you.

in my school (secondary) we have 8 staff who have caught it and 100 students and we are still open - we have to be, schools arnt aloud to close... to date im ok

Pregnancy, asmtha, cardiac conditions, diabetes and any condition that suppresses your immunity place you at higher risk. It is the dominant flu strain in the southern hemisphere and people are no longer being routinely swabbed.

Take paracetamol for temps and body aches, keep your fluids up and consult a flu info line if you have any of hte above conditions. Te flu jab here is usually only available to over 65's and anyone with a serious medical condition. This yer the govt has offered it free to everyone including children to prevent seasonal flu. 400 people die a year with seasonal flu and loads get medical attention. Swine flu is expected to claim as many lives and it already placing a huge pull on resources. The flu is generally more mild than other flus but people her have died/are seriously ill who do not have preexisting conditions which is making it a bit scarier.

Use hand gels after being at the supermarket, using atms etc. Get your flu jab and stock up on paracetamol and loo roll.

Interesting. I thought Tamiflu as contraindicated in pregnancy and that Relenza was the drug of choice for pregnant ladies?
