Will be priority for swine flu jabs?

Just wondering, will we be able to have these jabs when pregnant and if so are we priority? I'm getting quite worried now as there have been a few cases in the area I live in!

In the US they will be, so it is likely the UK will follow. The UK does offer the seasonal flu vaccine to pregnant women, so I dont see why this would be different. Hope this helps.

The priority people who will be getting it first are....

People with low immune systems
The elderly
Under 5's
People with asthma + diabetes ect
Medical staff
Doctors

I think children will be a the priority

then people most at risk e.g the elderly etc

Pregnant women I'm not sure if you can have it done. Ring your doctors if unsure hun

pregnant will be the last lot on the 'priority' list. Unless you are pregnant and have other health issues (such as asthma/diabetes)

Definitely find out all the facts before you decide... These things are rarely "properly" tested on pregnant women... and the certification of this vaccine is being "fast tracked" too (may not be a problem, but you don't know).

Prseumably the vaccine is a slightly mutated common flu vaccine... in which case it will probably be ok. The common flu vaccine has even been encouraged for pregnant women (outside of the early stages of pregnancy) recently - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6079878.stm

But, like anything (even crossing the road), there are risks: so be aware of them before making any decision.

There isn't a lot of research/news specific to the Swine Flu Vaccine use in pregnancy yet, but probably will be more information nearer the time it is available. Definitely find out the facts and discuss it with your MW and/or doctor...

Try not to worry too much in the meantime - the vast majority of cases have been mild: nothing that a few days in bed, lots of fluids and a few paracetamol wont clear up

QT

I seen the vaccine mentioned on the news this evening. I'm not sure if I'd personally fell comfortable taking the vaccine - mainly because it seems very rushed.
